Barko Specialty Equipment manufactures and markets a broad line of forestry equipment and wood chippers. Job Summary -

Responsible for the development, planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of the company’s environmental health and safety programs.  Ensures company and employee compliance with safety and environmental systems, policies and procedures.  Assumes primary responsibility for the administration and implementation of programs to ensure the company’s adherence to all applicable, federal, state and local regulations.  Also directs the company’s occupational health and worker’s compensation efforts.

 

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading cultural change efforts in regards to safety, including daily reinforcement of company safety policies and procedures

  • Advise Operations and Plant Managers on all items related to EHS

  • Monitor lost-time injuries and Worker’s Compensation Claims

  • Provide all required EHS Training and documentation

    • Maintain Gensuite Recording in Training Tracker

    • Ensure on time EHS Training is achieved

       

  • Maintain Employee Safety Certifications

    • Ensure Forklift and Painter Certifications are up to date

       

  • Maintain Environmental Permits

    • Ensure Air Permit is current and daily activities recorded in DEC database

    • Ensure Universal Waste Permits are issued

    • Ensure Waste Water Permits are current

       

  • Maintain OSHA Compliance throughout Buildings

    • Daily inspections as required

    • Ensure HAZMAT Compliance

    • Ensure Personnel Safety Compliance

       

  • Manage Daily inspection sheets

    • Collect and process Forklift, Skyjacks, Hoists, Cranes, Industrial Equipment, and Paint Booth inspection sheets

       

  • Manage the monthly section safety inspections throughout the building

    • Process inspections through Gensuite Power inspection tool

       

  • Conduct Monthly Spot Checks of Critical Programs

    • Process Corrective actions through Action Tracker

       

  • Maintain Contractor Safety Program

    • In process inspections of Arc Flash preparation, LOTO, Commissioning preparation, and monthly program reviews

    • Ensure Proper paperwork is filled out and maintained and Insurance Forms are up to date

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Related field, or equivalent
  • 2-5 years of related experience preferred, but not required
  • Certification Safety Professional or other safety-related accredited certification is highly desirable
  • Principles, practices and procedures relating to workers’ compensation principles, practices and procedures of safety programs including implementation, maintenance, review and updating programs
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and rules is preferred but not required
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate safety procedures and identify specific safety concerns
  • Proficient in MS Windows software
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
