Job Title: Project Engineer

Division/Location/Department: Color Division/St. Louis/Engineering Department

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

Provide engineering and project management expertise in the design, modification, construction, and start up of capital projects for Sensient Colors LLC. Assist other departments in trouble-shooting equipment and process problems. Coordinate the work of outside engineering firms working on Sensient Colors LLC projects. In addition, provide specialist expertise in the area of process engineering, process control engineering, or systems engineering.

 Knowledge/Skill Requirements

Job requires practical application of engineering design formulas to equipment sizing and comparing alternatives based on their size, cost, effectiveness and cost-justification. An open mind and creative attitude are needed to find solutions to unique processing problems. A thorough understanding of the entire manufacturing process must be developed to fully understand the affects of processing changes. Good organizational ability is needed in maintaining project budgets, planning and scheduling work, and solving problems that arise with production and construction. Planning skills must include the ability to maintain schedules on multiple projects, while being interrupted on a daily basis with production and construction needs.

 Key Duties/Responsibilities

Assume project manager responsibilities, when assigned, for capital projects. Design and specify installation requirements for new processes or modifications to existing processes. Monitor capital projects for adherence to budget and schedule. Justify discrepancies during the course of the project so that approval for added funds can be requested promptly. Manage various trades during projects, as assigned, to insure proper building construction and installation of equipment occurs on schedule. Monitor schedule and update, as necessary, to keep company management informed of schedule changes. Assist plant personnel in training and start up of completed systems.



Perform preliminary engineering for the various departments by concepting solutions and designing modifications to existing buildings, equipment, and processes. This includes equipment sizing, equipment arrangements and alternates, control systems, and equipment cost estimates and quotes. Assist the manufacturing staff by developing project budgets and schedules for approval by company management. Submit documentation, suggest alternative solutions, and follow-up as required.




Provide engineering support services to the manufacturing department upon request to diagnose and trouble‑shoot equipment and process problems. Design or recommend small modifications to the equipment, process, or operating procedures.



Improve processes by transitioning new technology from the R&D lab to the factory floor by the application of equipment and technology to Sensient Colors LLC.




Investigate new equipment, technology, and construction methods and recommend application to Sensient Colors LLC for improved product manufacturing at reduced cost.


Job Requirements


BS in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical discipline with five years of plant or process engineering experience, preferably in the food and/or chemical industry.
