Job Description

Job is located in Tucson, AZ.


Under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health, is responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of Training Unit. In consultation with other team members, decides what combination of trainings is appropriate for staff and community and delivers services which may include individual and group facilitation.  Additional responsibilities include coordinating training events schedule to ensure conformance with standards set by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Indian Health Services (IHS), and Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS).



  • Develops and coordinates a training calendar that meets CARF and ADHS requirements; develops policies and procedures and provider and program needs; uses assessment tools to demonstrate training effectiveness.
  • Responsible for supervision and performance evaluations of assigned personnel. 
  • Provides on call, after-hours and weekend crisis intervention on a rotation basis.
  • Conducts new employee orientation for PYCSP.
  • Provides information to patients regarding patient rights and ensures patient rights are protected.
  • Participates on the Treatment Team Review Meetings (TTR) and as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
  • Interacts effectively with all components of service delivery system, including Family Violence Intervention Program, HIV/AIDS Prevention Program, Alternative Medicine Program, Massage Therapist etc.
  • Trains and supervises other counselors; arranges for outside training and/or facilitates training.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to staff and subcontractor agencies as necessary.
  • Provides case management, referrals and counseling to clients as needed.
  • Records all clinical contacts in an electronic charting system in accordance with American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Commission on Accreditation of rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) guidelines.
  • Enters and maintains clinical information and clinical notes into an electronic charting system, in accordance with the Centered Spirit Employee Handbook.
  • Collects and reports on client data as required by the Director of Behavioral Health.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.



Knowledge of:

  • Behavioral science and forensic principles pertaining to substance abuse including identification, evaluation, counseling, rehabilitation, education, prevention and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) or Day treatment;
  • The treatment of dual diagnosis disorders and treatment strategies Applicable laws and regulations concerning substance abuse and treatment;
  • State and Federal Laws on Substance Abuse Treatment and confidentiality;
  • Methadone maintenance treatment and practice;
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.


Skills in & Ability to:

  • Diagnosis using the DSM-IV TR and the ICD-9
  • Interviewing and assessing substance abuse and mental health disorders;
  • Crisis intervention techniques, crisis resources, including risk assessments and hospitalization protocols;
  • Interpreting and following policies and procedures;
  • Differentiate substance abuse and mental health disorders;
  • Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Track documentation requirements and to keep treatment plans assessments and other required documents up to date;
  • Interpret and follow policies and procedures;
  • Effectively train a group of behavioral health professionals, technicians and/or paraprofessionals;
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other public agencies and people from various socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Using computers and related software applications;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members and the general public.  Ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

Job Requirements

Training and EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, behavioral health, or related field; and two (2) years of supervised clinical experience, plus be a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC) or  a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or  Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) in any state, plus three (3) years of clinical training experience.
  • Current Arizona license LISAC, LPC, LCSW or LMFT preferred.
  • Successful work history with Indian populations and or other ethnic groups preferred.
AND ·         Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.


  • Licensing REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s license. 


Background Check:  

  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire.  Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in removal from this position.
  • Must provide at least three (3) business related reference letters.
  • Must pass a background check and drug test. 
  • Funding and sensitivity of position will determine fingerprinting requirement.

Section 3201), Minimum Standards of Character and Suitability for Employment (25 CFR 63), Section 231 of the Crime Control Act (P.L. 101-647), and Child Care Worker Employee Background Checks (42 U.S.C Section 13041). 


Tribal Vehicle Use Policy Notice: 

This position may require the use of personal, GSA or Tribal vehicle for Tribal business.  Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.  Use of a personal vehicle for Tribal business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a Tribal vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.


Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require:  finger dexterity, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.


Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
