Job Description

The primary function of this role is to increase international law firm’s visibility by securing strategic media coverage in California as well as across our U.S. offices. This position reports to the Director of Public Relations and plays an integral role on the firm’s Public Relations team, handling day-to-day PR activities firmwide, including developing successful media campaigns, responding to press inquiries, drafting award and directory submissions and press releases. Ideal candidates must have the ability to communicate persuasively and concisely. Candidates must be able to work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team.  


Develop a thorough and strategic communications plan for the firm’s three California offices. The plan should include focused messages at the firm, practice group and office levels, with measurable goals.


• Serve point main media contact person for San Francisco, Silicon Valley and L.A. offices.


• Work closely with legal trade, financial and mainstream media to increase the profile of the firm, practice groups and partners in California and across the country.


• Create and implement effective PR campaigns for individual lawyers and practice groups that support client development goals.


• Identify appropriate third-party commentary topics and industry trends and proactively reach out to reporters to secure interview opportunities and media coverage.


• Pitch and place attorney-written articles at legal, business and industry publications.


• Draft press releases, media pitches and source advisories.


• Responsible for overseeing, editing and drafting various award and directory submissions for Law360, American Lawyer, Daily Journal and National Law Journal.


• Have strong contacts with key reporters; help develop and maintain media relationships institutionally.


• Assist with the building and daily maintenance of press office systems and processes, such as researching targeted media lists and managing media database; organizing editorial calendar system, including identifying appropriate opportunities and managing deadlines; drafting and posting media-related content to the firm’s website, intranet and social media; and assisting with tracking press coverage and compiling news clips.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.


• Minimum of 5 years of PR experience in the professional services industry, preferably in a law firm.


• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written


• Strong analytical skills


• Detail-oriented in all tasks, including excellent proof-reading and research skills


• Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines


• Ability to work independently and with a highly collaborative team


• Strong customer service ethic


• Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the firm


• Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities


• Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
