Job Description

Texas Oncology has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Medical Assistant in our Wichita Falls Cancer Center.  1-3 years, experience scheduling patients a plus.

Escorts patients to and from exam rooms and records patient data. Prepares and stocks treatment rooms. Assists physicians with exams/procedures as requested. Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. Answers patient telephone calls for referrals. Other administrative duties as requested.

Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Gynecology or Oncology experience preferred.




Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a medical environment that may include medical oncology, radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging,  or gynecologic oncology. Maintains efficient patient flow, assists with patient care, i.e. exams, procedures and patient education. Performs miscellaneous clinic support tasks including filing, answering phones and maintaining physicians schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.




  1. Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  2. Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  3. Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician and verifies presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.
  4. Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  5. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  6. Assists with delegated patient education activities including but not limited to distributing education literature, etc.
  7. Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
  8. Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors.
  9. Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  10. Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
  11. Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  12. Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-up on test results, as applicable.
  13. Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed. Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
  14. Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
  15. Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
  16. Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills.
