Job Description


The Director of Education provides key educational leadership for the Education Team assigned as well as a critical liaison relationship with sending districts and community agencies.  This position serves as a member of the Leadership Team and is instrumental in supporting policies and procedures, as well as school-wide strategic initiatives.

Team Leadership: The Education Director ensures an educational environment that facilitates maximum success and achievement of both educational and social-emotional goals.   

Teaching & Learning: The Education Director possesses knowledge of teaching which is grounded in research and best practices.  The success and achievement of all students is ensured by monitoring and continuously improving teaching and learning. 

School Culture: The Education Director "utilizes multiple strategies to influence the school culture in a way that fosters collaboration among the staff and the involvement of parents, students, and the community in efforts to improve student learning". 

Additional Administrative Functions: As an active member of the Leadership Team, the Education Director participates in the overall development of policies and procedures as they relate to the effective provision of services to students who attend the Wheeler Clinic School, Inc. programs.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.

Demonstrates leadership by reinforcing positive behavior and promoting recognition through the use of effective employee evaluations, employee appreciation, effective hiring practices, and accountability.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in Education or related field plus a minimum of 3 years experience with special education students and 092 CT Administration certification as well as an additional educational endorsement as approved by the State Department of Education regulations is required. This position will serve our elementary and middle school students and is a 12 month position.
