Job Description

  • Provides leadership: CPA REQUIRED that directs, coordinates, and manages all functions and staff related to being the Chief Financial Officer of the company.  Has direct responsibility for Daily Accounting, Financial Reporting, Internal Controls / Risk Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, Safety / Loss Prevention, Overall company wide administration and financial management.  Serves on the executive team and engages in best strategy & growth. 
  • Financial Reporting Overall responsibility for internal financial statements.  Coordinates preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements.  Coordinates annual certified audit with independent CPA firm.  Prepares annual shareholder report.   Coordinates preparation of the annual budget submission.  Determine and monitor accounting policies and procedures.  Develop cost containment strategies.  Review transactions and support documentation in assuring all internal control standards are met.  Provides the financial report at quarterly board and annual shareholder meetings.  Completes and submits financial reports as required by corporate action, licensing authorities and financial institutions.  
  • Income Tax Reporting:  Quarterly and year end taxable income projections for the Board to determine shareholder distributions.  Maintain depreciation schedules.  Supervise preparation of annual income tax return.  Have key knowledge, monitor and report on income tax regulations, pending legislation and related issues.
  • Insurance:  Review coverage & limits and coordinate with Agent and Carrier.  Analyze premium costs to determine reasonableness, proper coverage and alternatives.  Solicit premium quotes and coverage options if deemed necessary.  Investigate and submit damage claims.  Monitor claim status and payments.  Maintain detailed schedules of coverage by location.  In conjunction with Safety / Loss Director, coordinate workers’ compensation claims, accident reporting, regulatory compliance and outstanding status.  

  • Taxes Review property assessed valuations and initiate appeal process if necessary.  Review and approve property tax statements for accuracy.  Monitor sales and compensating use tax issues and check compliance.  Prepare sales tax exemption forms and submit to suppliers.  Monitor payroll and property tax compliance.  Review and approved quarterly and year end payroll reports.

  • Fixed AssetsMaintain fixed asset list by location / type and related depreciation schedules for financial reporting and income tax purposes.   Responsible for property & equipment capitalization policy and Appropriation approval process.  Completes appropriate analysis on proposed purchases, divestitures and major acquisitions including lease vs. purchase, return on investment studies, paybacks and alternative considerations.  Coordinates the preparation of the annual capital expenditure budget / three year plan.  Investigate and analyze business expansion opportunities.
  • Treasury Functions:  Develops and maintains relationships with lending institutions.  Determines proper level of financing, term and any renewals.  Manages interest rate market risks.  Reviews all loan agreements and associated loan documentation prior to commitment.  Assures all loan covenants are in compliance including financial reporting requirements.   Develops all internal controls with regard to proper treasury management functions.  Approves all wire transfers and check signing authorization.  Preparation of all credit reports and inquiries from suppliers.  

  • Human Resources Through the position of Director of HR, oversees all employee recruiting, performance, compensation and benefit programs of the company.  Provides recommendations for retaining the best talent available.  Coordinates 401(k) plan operations, compliance and approves all distribution requests.  Member of investment review committee.  Evaluate and recommend benefit programs including the group health plan offering alternatives.  Participate in wage reviews and any employee counseling efforts.  Recruits and evaluate candidates for key management positions.  Holds employee meetings as required.
  • Safety & Loss Prevention Stays abreast of regulations and pending issues to keep the locations in effective operating order.  Responds to company issues and any crisis management as needed.  Coordinates with Safety Director.  Reviews inspections completed to assure all locations are operating in compliance with internal controls, regulatory compliance, and documents exceptions to be addressed.  Follows up on these action steps.
  • Technology Understands, develops plans, strategy and implementation of latest technology including operational efficiency and manages resources.  Works with IT Director to assure systems are in viable order and well safeguarded.  
  • Provides input and responds to guidance, vision and direction from the President & CEO. Maintains close work relationship on projects, strategies, business opportunities and various problems and issues.  Develops a broad understanding of the agriculture industry.  Works with other department / divisional heads, staff resources and provides meaningful participation in running an effective management team.  Establishes and documents proper policy and procedure.  Assist in coordination of all legal matters and necessary work.   Other projects and / or duties as requested.

Job Requirements

    • Compensation directly related to experience in the agriculture arena.  Grain, commodity, agriculture, livestock, cattle industry preferred.
    • Outstanding organization with top management and financial strength.
    • Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge.
    • Very computer friendly - spreadsheet proficient (Excel).
    • Excellent managerial abilities.

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance plus CPA certification.
    • 10 years of hands-on accounting managerial experience REQUIRED
