Job Description

Modern company looking for a strong SQL DBA to wear many hats in theorganization and be a quick learner in a fast-paced environment. Will have dailyinteractions with the development team, who will also serve as support tothe DBA. Daily responsibilities will focus around helping tospeed up a complex report always looking for and identifying areas ofimprovement. The DBA will plan and implement DR/HA plans. For developinglanguages, it would be helpful for this DBA to have a high level ofunderstanding of scripting and general development knowledge.


Ø  The DatabaseAdministrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for databaseenvironment including overseeing the development and organization of thedatabases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providingInformation Technology with a long term perspective on the relationship ofdatabase technology to the business opportunities . The on-line processingdatabase systems are the heart of the systems. It is extremely important to thesystems offer the highest reliability and performance possible. The DBA ischallenged to work with architecture, application development and operations tohelp achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and futurebusiness objectives.


Ø  SQL Server SpecificDatabase Administrator Setup, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server databasereplication Knowledge and understanding of DTS packages Thorough understandingof T-SQL scripting Utilize SQL Profiler to diagnose and resolve issues

General DatabaseAdministration

Ø  Space Utilization IDatabase Reorganization Monitor space utilization, including data space, indexspace, rollback segments, temporary segments, TempDB, table and indexfragmentation, etc. Define Reorg parameters (extents, chaining, contiguousspace, I/O contention, fragmentation, performance) Perform maintenance on alldatabases as required

Ø  Database TuningPerform periodic general tuning of all databases as required to maintainbusiness continuity

Ø  Backup / RecoveryManage the backup and recovery policy for all databases Audit the backup Irecovery process to ensure 100% reliability Perform disaster recovery planning

Ø  Database SoftwareInstall, configure, and maintain software; conduct testing, training, andcommunication on new features

Ø  Database MonitoringInstall, configure, and maintain monitoring software Evaluate and recommendthird-party tools for monitoring Perform evidence collection in support ofinternal and external audits

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a DBA.
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server (2005 & 2008) architecture and replication
  • T-SQL programming skills (Not required but desired)
