Position Summary

The Training and Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, developing, maintaining, tracking, and/or delivering training and education to support Standards, Compliance and Enforcement, Reliability Risk Management and other NERC internal and external programs.  This position also provides appropriate training products for the power industry to promote reliability of the bulk power system (BPS).  The Training and Education Coordinator reports to the Manager of Training and Education.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead training development projects.
  • Develop, review, and maintain training materials using Systematic Approach to Training methods to meet identified training needs.
  • Coordinate, design, develop, track, and deliver staff training in collaboration with NERC functional departments and program leads.
  • Determine appropriate delivery mechanisms and training venues based on the subject matter and audience.
  • Use instructor led and distance learning and training technology tools for development, delivery, and tracking of training events and programs.
  • Support and coordinate with regional entities, industry groups, and contractors to develop and deliver training and educational materials and activities.
  • Coordinate with standards drafting teams, member forums, and the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) staff to develop appropriate training and education materials and activities for the industry.
  • Support NERC staff in developing and delivering high quality workshops and webinars.
  • Support NERC Human Resources in development and implementation of staff training and use of the NERC learning management system.
  • Working with technical subject matter experts (SMEs), perform training needs assessments based on industry reliability performance and compliance to determine appropriate training products.
  • Working with NERC and regional entity staff, support performance improvement and change initiatives to promote consistency.
  • Provide information and training to industry personnel to support improved electric reliability programs.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining training processes and procedures in the NERC Training and Education section.
  • Assist in monitoring NERC and ERO enterprise programs for trends, lessons learned, and organization activities to identify training and education needs and opportunities.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and improvement of NERC program policies, procedures, rules, etc.
  • Support the ERO Staff Training Group.
  • Participate in NERC training and education programs as required/needed.
  • Support the Personnel Certification and Continuing Education programs as needed.

Job Requirements


The successful candidate will have:

  • Six to eight years’ experience.
  • Remarkable leadership and team member attributes, traits, and skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in instructional design, development, and facilitation.
  • Excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to constructively review and edit written materials.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with people from many levels of industry and government.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Proficient in MS Office, strong computer skills in general and functional knowledge and understanding of distance learning applications.

Additional desired attributes include:

  • Two to five years in the electric utility industry.
  • Understanding of the NERC Rules of Procedure, NERC Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program, and NERC reliability standards.
  • Knowledge of COSO, GAGAS, and IIA standards.
  • One of the following certifications:  CPA, CFE, CIA, CISA
  • Experience and developing and delivering auditor training materials. 
  • Experience in electronic and web-based education development and delivery.
  • Possess ability to remain flexible and adapt to a developing work environment and potential modifications to duty responsibilities.
