Job Description

Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc. (LSS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is committed to serving people in need, including children, seniors, the financially challenged, and disaster response in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
LSS is the largest provider of children’s residential care in Texas and currently serves more than 26,000 individuals annually. LSS oversees more than 337 foster homes through our Foster In Texas (FIT) program and operates Lutheran Adoption Services of Texas (LAST), three children’s residential facilities in Texas, and charter schools on three campuses. LSS also provides services for seniors in five senior retirement communities as well as critical assistance and emergency response to those impacted by financial hardship and natural disasters.


Responsibilities:

General Description:
The Area Director of Family Services is a position requiring expertise in providing quality clinical and social services to include treatment assessment and planning, program management and supervision of family service professionals.

Job Requirements

Essential Functions:
  • Provide appropriate social services and assure compliance in accordance with accreditation standards, contract terms, Agency policies, accredication standards and funding requirements.
  • Perform recruitment, intake/eligibility, verification, assessment, placement, and referral services to prospective foster parents, adoptive parents, and children in foster care.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise program and assigned program personnel.
  • Provide required new hire training to staff within 60 days and first twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Schedule, monitor and assist consultant team's interdisciplinary review process to promote timely reviews to meet required standards.
  • Ensure quarterly reviews of service/treatment plans for all children.
  • Provide oversight and in-service training to staff to ensure quality treatment services.
  • Responsible for the analysis of the nature, severity and frequency of risks.
  • Prepare, compile, submit, and maintain accurate records, files, forms, statistics, and additional relevant information in accordance with Agency policy, licensing and/or funding requirements.
  • Assist recruiters in performing public relations and publicity tasks; outreach, speaking at groups, TV and radio advertisement, brochures, newsletters, etc., as requested and/or necessary.
  • Assume role of liaison worker with local agencies, community resources, and other geographical agency offices.
  • Review and sign off on client records in accordance with licensing standards.
  • Initiate subcontractor development and oversee subcontractor process to include contract procurement and management, contract compliance and outcome of service provision.
  • Assist with foster parent training and support groups.
  • Coordinate CQI process to include outcome measures and evaluate individual care plans for effectiveness.
  • Maintain and implement program policies and practices in conjunction with Associate Vice President of Family Services and the Executive Director of Domestic Adoption.
  • Assist with scheduled chart reviews to ensure compliance with state licensing, accreditation and contract standards.
  • Provide direct services as needed.
  • Participate in service expansion planning, development of program budget and strategic planning to include short and long range plans.
  • Review and sign billing paperwork upon approval.
  • As a part of a personnel development program, complete all required training hours and participate in formal supervision and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Staff will follow all established Texas Minimum Standards, DFPS contracts and Agency policy and procedures. Identified Health and Safety concerns that are directly related to the failure to follow these established guidelines will be considered non-compliant and will be addressed through the agency disciplinary system.
  • Practice with the highest ethics and standards of the profession.
  • Driving/travel required.
