Job Description


The Senior Construction Estimator is responsible for generating accurate costs of material and labor required to complete site modification activities on existing telecommunication sites or estimating the cost of new tower development.  The incumbent will work closely with the Engineering and Senior Project Manager of Redevelopment providing pricing and assisting with project scope Development teams on multiple projects with aggressive timelines.  Using inputs and analyzing data such as shop drawings, blueprints and engineering narratives the incumbent must be able to accurately estimate the cost of labor, steel, fabrication and raw materials on multiple projects in a fast past and repetitive environment.  The costs estimates generated by the Senior Construction Estimator will be provided to both internal and external customers and will be used as the basis for all customer reimbursement.  Attention to detail and accuracy is critical.

Job Requirements


  • Analyze blueprints, shop drawings and engineering narratives and prepare detailed and accurate quality takeoffs and construction cost estimates
  • Deliver accurate construction cost estimates on tower upgrades and structural modifications within tight deadlines
  • Assist in the development of a cost estimating tool for new tower development that can be used by Construction Managers for preliminary estimates
  • Maintain database of historical pricing estimates to reconcile estimate v. actual bid cost
  • Seek ways to minimize costs by suggesting alternative design or scope adjustments without compromising safety or quality
  • Communicate to and track pricing with internal stakeholders, including Engineering, Account Project Managers and Network Development, to ensure timely delivery of costs estimates to external customers
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain and Network Development Construction on continued process improvements of estimating work
  • Obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing from internal and external sources while maintaining awareness of new and emerging industry practices

  • Supervise and manage performance of a team of estimators within the assigned region.
  • Recruit, develop and retain staff, partnering with Senior Management, Recruiting and Human Resources.  This includes on-boarding and orientation for new hires.
  • Provide disciplined performance management for team.  Define and communicate annual goals, perform formal and informal performance reviews, and ensure changes and updates are communicated in a timely and professional manner.
  • Create strong collaborative team environment.
  • Proactively identify and resolve personnel issues in conjunction with Human Resources.


  • Ability to read blue prints, modification designs, technical documents and other engineering deliverables to accurately estimate the total cost of projects
  • Detail orientated, highly analytical with the ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Knowledge of typical labor and material costs throughout the US
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Ability to work with functional groups and different level of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results
  • Strong follow-up skills; ability to organize timelines and follow up with internal and external customer needs
  • Strong technical and non-technical written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast paced environment
  • Strong track record of building and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete recurring tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify quality solutions.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


  • Four-year Construction- or Engineering-related degree required
  • Minimum of seven years of telecommunications, construction or commercial construction industry experience required
  • Minimum of five years’ experience directly estimating structural modification or civil construction in the telecommunications industry is required
  • Minimum five years’ experience in construction, structural upgrades, steel fabrication, concrete, labor rates and material cost estimating throughout the US required
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience required
  • At least three years’ experience with and knowledge of AutoCAD required


  • Approximately 80% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.  Approximately 20% travel may be required in support of the position’s responsibilities.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
