Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the operations, design and management of server platforms and technology services hosted within the KCS/KCSM Data Center complexes and supporting all mission critical business systems and operations. This person will lead a group of System Engineers and Administrators that will ensure the IT Infrastructure meets the demands of a rapidly growing and changing global business and IT landscape. This role has people management responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business or related
  • 5+ years of IT Infrastructure Management and Data Center Operations experience
  • 3+ years of disaster recovery and business continuity planning experience
  • 5+ years of managing technical resources working in data center or managed services environment
  • ITIL v3 Certification, PMP (Project Management), ABCP, CFCP, CBCP, MBCP certifications or equivalent preferred
  • HP Intel x86 servers, Windows server, Linux/Unix experience
  • Proven ability as an engineer or an architect in one or more of the following areas to establish that internal recovery sites are updated and functioning properly: applications, systems (Windows/Unix), storage, database, data centers.
  • Proven ability to lead crisis management teams for planning in the event of business interruption.
  • Proven ability to develop strategy as well as write, communicate, facilitate, and present to all levels of IT, internal staff and management. Creating course materials practice methodologies and tools, policies and procedures, whitepapers, and other standard business communications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows including Word, Outlook (2010) PowerPoint,  Access and Excel,
  • Microsoft Visio, Project, CA Clarity (Project/Time management) experience preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
  • Ability to effectively present information in small groups to customers and KCS employees
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

JOB DUTIES:

  • Manages IT service continuity plans, documentation and annual tests.
  • Ensures continuous improvement through risk mitigation and elimination and status reporting to IT management and internal audit.
  • Tracks and reports monthly IT system and service availability metrics.
  • Participates on the virtual crisis management team and assists in the facilitation of IT crisis events.
  • Manages KCSR services or providers of services to KCSR for proper cooling, commercial power, standby power, and uninterruptable power services.
  • Attends meetings with IT and KCS business customers to review current state and compare with developing demands and forecasts.
  • Manages existing contracts that support IT service continuity.
  • Creates and manages new contracts for BCP/DR with future providers as needed.
  • Provides project management oversight in alignment with PMO methodology for infrastructure Data Center projects.
