Data Warehouse Architect


We are seeking an experienced and passionate Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Architect to join our team to lead the design of one of the largest health and human services data warehouses in the country.  This is an ideal opportunity for the right data architect to bring theory and practice to a career defining project, and in the process bring added value to programs that touch millions of lives.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Work with client stakeholders, IT systems administrators, the DBA team, and the ETL team to drive the design and development of a hundred terabyte scale EDW solution
  • Follow industry best practices in designing easy to use, maintainable, and high performance data marts that service a variety of business intelligence solutions
  • Work with the data warehousing project management team to manage vendor relationships
  • Design a flexible and extensible data model using data modeling tools such as ERwin, E/R Studio and Metadata Manager
  • Design overall data architecture to acquire, transform, distribute and maintain data from dozens of sources, destined for multiple marts and business presentations
  • Build a repository to store and manage technical, business, operational and other forms of metadata.  Protect that metadata and provision it according to business need
  • Work closely with the DBA team and the business intelligence team to design and implement performance enhancing structures such as materialized views, OLAP cubes, etc.
  • Provide thought leadership regarding business intelligence and data warehouse implementations
  • Work with the DBA team and business intelligence teams to implement structures that enable drill down, slowly changing dimensions, and other common data warehouse features

Job Requirements

  • 5 or more years of data modeling experience using an industry standard tool (such as ERwin, ER/Studio)

  • 5 or more years of experience working directly on data warehousing/business intelligence teams 

  • 3 or more years of experience in designing and implementing data transformation objects in tandem with those standing up ETL processes

  • Demonstrated experience with change control and data governance processes, both in development and operations




  • Health care data and/or  health and human services data experience

  • 5 or more years of experience implementing metadata driven business intelligence solutions using one of the following technologies: Cognos BI, BusinessObjects, Hyperion, Oracle BIEE, Tableau, SAS

  • 3 or more years of experience in managing, securing and publishing technical, business, operational and security metadata

  • Experience with creating objects and procedures that assist in meeting security and privacy objectives as required under SOC II, and/or SSAE 16 (or SAS70) audits

  • Experience implementing type 1, 2, 3 and hybrid slowing changing dimensions

  • Experience with the administrative aspects of Oracle Enterprise Database, Informatica PowerCenter and BusinessObjects WebIntelligence

  • Understanding of HIPAA privacy & security rules

  • Experience tuning large scale Oracle Database installations including partitioned tables, materialized views and multi-dimensional summary techniques (OLAP)

  • Knowledge of theoretical DW design considerations including: Inmon and Kimball approaches as well as the appropriate settings for relational & dimensional modeling

  • CBIP or other recognized business intelligence certification

  • Experience in advocacy of the creation of a data warehouse as a data governance process
