Multi-State Payroll Accountant

Description

The Payroll Accountant position will be responsible for all payroll related G/L accounts, reconciliation of accounts, reconciliation of payroll runs, tax filings and research variances to resolution. The Payroll Accountant will be ensure all payroll tax processes are executed and completed in compliance with Federal and State regulations for all entities within the company.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • • Assist with preparation of annual budget for payroll and payroll related expenses including calculation of annual benefits burden projections
  • • Reconcile payroll and benefit plan liabilities and researches variances with internal business partners and external vendors
  • • Reconcile CST employee’s benefit deductions and employer contributions
  • • Work with internal and external auditors
  • • Responsible for researching and resolving any tax authority inquires
  • • Back-up payroll processor for multi-state bi-weekly payroll using Ultipro
  • • Coordinate the payroll year end process by maintaining and executing the year end tasks which include balancing and preparing W-2 forms and electronic submission to the SSA
  • • Validate payroll tax payments provided by payroll service for CST
  • • Generate various reports from Ultipro
  • • Ensure compliance with SOX and government regulations
  • • Partner with Payroll, Benefits and General Ledger Accounting to identify and review items with cross-departmental impacts
  • • Interacts with accounting department regarding inquiries, reconciliations and budget preparation and work on ad-hoc projects on as assigned

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • • Three years of Payroll Accounting or three years combined General Accounting and Payroll experience required.
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • • Solid knowledge of multi-state payroll tax regulations and administration
  • • Ability to work in a complex and changing environment
  • • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs
  • • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments, management levels within the company, and external stakeholders
  • • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and related products
  • • Ability to multi-task and is self-directed
  • • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • • Must possess strong organizational skills
  • • Ability to interact effectively as part of a team
  • • Ability to perform in a dynamic work environment with competing priorities
  • • Exercise sound judgment when making decisions
  • • Able to meet deadlines as necessary
  • • Good problem solver/creative thinker
