Basic Purpose:
This position will be a working auditor for the Food Safety Certification Systems program, but who will also supervise a group of Lead Auditors. The Senior Auditor will support the Technical Manager and help in the development of Lead Auditors and ensure that high quality standards are met. Additionally, the position will provide training and calibration to auditors.

This is a remote (home-based) position with up to 75% regional travel required.
**NSF is seeking several Full Time Regular Auditors as well as Independent Contractors.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Conduct the full range of assigned Food Safety Certification Audits
  • Supervise Lead Auditors and help maintain high quality audits among assigned direct reports.
  • Conduct Shadow, witness, and calibration audits of Audit team.
  • Provide monthly reports of Auditor performance, utilization, and quality of work.
  • Provide training to auditors and customers.
  • Conduct special supplier visits to investigate product failures and verify the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Develop effective work plans for the completion of assigned audits.
  • Support NSF's business units by assisting clients in the identification of additional NSF services that may be beneficial (examples -quality system registration, consultation, organics).
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with program representatives and project managers as it relates to client-specific concerns affecting plants assigned to the auditor.
  • Conduct CB reviews of audit reports in order to support the certification process.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Job Requirements


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Certified as a consultant or auditor in the GFSI benchmarked standards including SQF and/or BRC with proven ability to train auditors.
  • Six (6) years food processing experience (food plant experience in a responsible position related to food safety).
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • In-depth working knowledge of the manufacture of food and allied products.
  • Ability to work independently from remote location.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (75%+) domestically and internationally.
  • Must have a valid driver license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to maintain a valid and current passport and have the ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in food/environmental health or related.
  • Ten (10) or more years food processing experience (food plant experience in a responsible position related to food safety).
  • Strong knowledge of NSF Standards and policies.
  • Work experience in public or private sector as sanitarian, chemist, engineer, microbiologist, or related quality function.
  • Experience conducting process based audits (ISO, related standards).
  • Ability to maintain a profession registration (environmental health, engineering, or related profession).
  • Foreign language skills as appropriate to the client home country.

Work Environment:

  • Majority of work takes place in manufacturing or other non-office setting.
  • Majority of time spent working independently from a remote location.

Physical Demands:

  • Required frequent overnight travel by car or plane (75%+).
  • Required to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Required to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license.
  • Extensive use of computers and other electronic equipment.
  • Medium to heavy physical effort required (ability to carry equipment weighing 25 lbs or less).
  • Ability to follow client and regulatory required safety practices.
