Job Description

Position:             Direct Care Staff I (aka Childcare Worker I)

Assignment:   Community Services Division, Texas Families: Together and Safe (TFTS)

                                AustinBuilding – San Antonio, Texas

Reports to:         Senior Program Director

Status:                  Part-time,Non-exempt

Education:           High School Diploma or GED Equivalency

Experience:        Prefer one-year experience working with children and/orfamilies

Supervises:         N/A

Critical Action Items:

  1. Maintain safety and supervision of children at all times.

  2. Alert Parent Educator should medical or urgent needs arise.

  3. Will provide positive interactions, nurturance, and supervision of the children without interruption from outside sources until relieved.

  4. Ensure the personal hygiene of each child by having the parent check their diaper/bottoms when they drop the child off.  Similarly, the Childcare Worker will ensure the child is clean upon end of shift (as permitted by parent).

  5. Supervise and promote positive interactions between the children, encouraging children to be respectful.

  6. Model appropriate behavior setting an example for children. 

    Measurable Deliverables:

  1. Arrive on time, 15 minutes before class begins and remain 15 minutes after class for clean-up (for an average total of 2hrs per shift).

  2. Sign-in at the beginning of each shift to verify time worked with Parent Educator.

  3. Obtain signed Consent From for each child from parent/caregiver and submit to Parent Educator.

  4. Participate in on-going training as coordinated by supervisor.

Job Requirements

  1. Must have reliable transportation, and clear driving record as applicable.

  2. Must maintain current driver’s license, or other photo identification.

  3. Must maintain a working telephone or other reliable means of communication co-workers can be accessed in case of urgent needs.

  4. Be available to cover a co-workers' shift as needed.

  5. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  6. Able to lift small children and infants, without assistance, to provide normal care.
