Educator Asthma - Full Time - Days - Children's

Job Description

Performs individualized needs assessment to identify specific educational and other health care needs of children with asthma and their families. Provides individualized and small group teaching and skills training for children and families. Coordinates care between the primary care physician, other health care providers, community resources, family, and the individual child or adolescent. In collaboration with other members of the Asthma Education Program team, provides training to other professionals who care for children with asthma.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs individualized needs assessment to identify specific educational and other health care needs of children with asthma and their families.

2. Provides individualized and small group teaching and skills training for children and families.

3. Provides training to other professional who care for children with asthma; provides training to community groups.

4. Develops database spreadsheets; collects and reports data relating to effectiveness of educational services.

5. Develops and/or updates educational material used for training and education.

6. Collaborates with other members of the Asthma Education Program team in identifying specific institutional or community needs and developing appropriate intervention strategies.

7. Appropriately adapts assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each member serviced.

8. Demonstrates adherence to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

A. Education/Skills:
• Must have completed appropriate educational program in respiratory therapy. Respiratory therapy education must be a graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program (accredited by Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) and have successfully completed the written exam given by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Prefer a Baccalaureate Degree in respiratory therapy or related field.

B. Experience
• At least three recent years of full-time experience in clinical pediatric respiratory care is required. Experience in case management or in a managed care setting is preferred. Experience in the care of children with asthma is required.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
• Must have either 1) A current respiratory therapist practitioner’s license in the state of Texas (credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist is preferred. 2) Certification by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (AE-C) is preferred.
