Job Description

A Performance Assurance Engineer is a highly trained individual who is responsible for continuously evaluating and assessing compliance and quality throughout Watco Mechanical Services and at our customer locations. In general, the position provides coaching, mentoring, and training to team members with the overall goal of improving compliance. This position ensures that team members interpret and follow written procedures; thereby providing assurance that the finished product conforms to the specification.
Responsibilities:
• Provide an independent evaluation and assessment of compliance and quality within a Watco Mechanical Services region given a broad range of technical specifications.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to team members with respect to the fulfillment of customer and regulatory requirements.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to team members with respect to nondestructive testing, welding, and post-weld stress relief processes. Job Requirements

Job Requirements

• AWS CWI / ASNT Level III preferred, but not required.
• At least five (5) years’ welding fabrication experience: tank car, freight car or pressure vessel experience preferred, but not required.
• Qualified by an employer in SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW in all positions.
• Experience as a lead welder, or welding instructor experience.
• Knowledge of AWS welding and cutting symbols.
• At least five (5) years’ nondestructive examination experience: tank car, freight car or pressure vessel experience preferred, but not required.
• Certified by an employer in accordance with the Association of American Railroads, Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices, Section C, Part III, M-1002, Specifications for Tank Cars, Appendix T in at least three (3) nondestructive testing methods preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge in freight car construction, inspection, test, and repair highly preferred, but not required.
• Ability to interpret drawings, blue prints, and engineering directive documents.
• Strong public speaking, training, and written skills.
• Must be highly motivated, self-directed, and capable of managing several tasks.
• Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office software.
• Willing to travel 85% of the time.
