A. SCOPE OF POSITION
The nurse practitioner is responsible for providing medical care (history, physical examination, and decisions making) as an independent licensed practitioner to outpatients in Blue Ridge Medical Management Corporation (BRMMC) medical practice settings. As applicable, the nurse practitioner will also provide inpatient care in a hospital setting as an independent licensed practitioner. The nurse practitioner may prescribe or recommend drugs for patients as well as refer them to physicians for consultation. He/she may order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess a patient's clinical problems and health care needs. For the nurse practitioner the scope of practice must be in accordance with the Board of Nursing in the state in which he/she is practicing.
Based on training and experience the nurse practitioner may work in medical practices from primary care to medical/surgery specialties and subspecialties.MSHA expects that every team member will role model Patient-Centered Care behaviors and be guided by MSHA's Values and the Principles of Patient-Centered Care.It is vital that an individual in this position be capable of good communication skills. The nurse practitioner is assigned to a physician(s) who serves as his/her supervising physician(s). The supervising physician may be located off-site. The nurse practitioner may discuss cases with the physician to prepare a patient care plan. He/she may also submit plans and goals of individual patients for review and evaluation by the physician. The Administrative Director for the nurse practitioner is the President of BRMMC.C. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The nurse practitioner must be a graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program and be licensed to practice as a nurse practitioner in the state in which the BRMMC practice is located. They must be able to be credentialed by various third party payers and also by the applicable medical staff.
