Underwriter Executive Products Group (EPG)
Purpose of position
The purpose of this position is to continue profitably and to expand the Northern California footprint within the Management Liability product lines.  Additionally, the EPG underwriter creates further awareness of RLI’s products.  Under general management support the underwriting functions of a product line.  Underwrites business, cross-selling and account rounding on existing business.  Builds relationships between brokers and insured, and reinsurers.  Reviews complex submissions, account losses, pricing models, and profitable premiums.  The Underwriter reviews sources of profit by selecting appropriate risks.  Assists in the approval, issuance, or change request as well as adhere to RLI guidelines. 
Principal duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze, evaluate, accept, decline, rate, quote, and bind new or renewal submissions.
  • Build relationships between brokers/insures and team members.
  • Review simple to moderately complex submissions, account losses, pricing models, and profitable premiums.
  • Serve as the point person and the face of RLI for the selected book of business, including creating a marketing plan for each of the designated Brokers.
  • Assist in the approval, issuance, or change requests for policies.
  • Assist with special projects or other duties as needed.

Job Requirements

RLI Core Requirements
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or a related field/
  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar field or RPLR or CPCU is a plus.
  • Underwriting Acumen:  Exhibit a deep technical knowledge of the management liability lines of insurance.
  • Negotiation/Deal Making: Utilize effective forms of communication and processes to strike the right balance while adhering to company policies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels and locations within the organization
  • Proven track record of building strong relationships with customers and maintaining visibility in the marketplace.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
  • Ability to use analytical methods in underwriting processes to find workable solutions.
  • Ability to generate innovative solutions within the underwriting department.
  • Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external contacts on underwriting matters.
    • Ability to use software to summarize and analyze large amounts of data.
