Enterprise Privacy Officer – Newly created position

$175-225k plus 50-75% bonus and stock, relocation assistance available


Bell & Associates, Inc. has been engaged to find our client’s first Enterprise Privacy Officer.  Our client is creating a Risk, Privacy, and Security department internally and this role will own the Enterprise Privacy function.  In this newly created role, you will build and design the team and drive the strategy and vision for the organization. 


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain global information privacy program to include, but not limited to policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure strategic and tactical focus on a range of privacy and data protection issues.
  • Assists in the establishment of an organization-wide Privacy Oversight Committee.
  • Serves in a leadership role for the Privacy Oversight Committee’s activities.
  • Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with company’s other compliance and operational assessment functions.
  • Oversees, directs, ensures delivery of initial and continual privacy training and orientation to all employees, volunteers, medical and professional staff, contractors, alliances business associates, and other appropriate third parties.
  • Oversees the company HIPAA program and requirements and assures compliance.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all partners and business associate agreements, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed. Includes requirements from the financial and healthcare industries. 
  • Establishes with management and operations a mechanism to track access to protected private information, within the purview of US and European legal requirements and to allow qualified individuals to review or receive a report on such activity.
  • Establishes and administers a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and taking action on all complaints concerning the privacy policies and procedures in coordination and collaboration with other similar functions and, when necessary, legal counsel.
  • Ensures compliance with privacy practices and consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with privacy policies for all individuals in the organization’s workforce, extended workforce, and for all business associates, in cooperation with Human Resources, the information security officer, administration, and legal counsel as applicable.
  • Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to foster information privacy awareness within the company and related entities.
  • Reviews all system-related information security plans throughout the company’s network to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices, and acts as a liaison to the information systems department.
  • Works with all company personnel involved with any aspect of release of protected information, to ensure full coordination and cooperation under the company’s policies and procedures and legal requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all applicable privacy laws and accreditation standards worldwide. Monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure company’s adaptation and compliance.
  • May lead a team of direct reports.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years’ of experience in managing a privacy and data protection programs in an international organization in the health and financial sectors.
  • Demonstrable interest and in-depth subject matter knowledge in global, regional privacy and data protection regulations.
  • Experience in handling complex privacy/data protection issues.
  • Ability to collaborate with the Business Units but not afraid to make a decision when there is a disagreement amongst different parties. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills.

Optimal:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years related experience, such as project management and compliance, risk management or audit experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
