Job Description

Purpose: Overall responsibility for all purchasing activities, warehouse & inventory management, and inbound/outbound freight. 
Key Result Areas (KRA’s):
1.  Manage the Inventory Procurement Process
Ensure timely deliveries of raw materials to manufacturing plant. Optimize inventory levels to balance efficient manufacturing with cost effective deployment of working capital. Utilize current ERP system to forecast material requirements; be amenable to learning and adapting to a new system. Efficiently manage material flow through multiple warehouses. Monitor events in supply chain to forecast prices of key raw materials.
Manufacturing is not impeded as a result of material shortages. Update cost system with future costs for key raw materials once monthly or more frequently if appropriate.
2.  Manage the Plant Logistics Department
Oversee management of receiving and shipping functions and logistics. Maintain relationships with inbound and outbound freight providers. Manage customer issues related to materials and containers used in shipping.
Deliveries are made in and out of the plant on a timely basis in a cost effective manner. Determine the root cause of any quality defects in product shipments and take action to resolve.
3.  Sourcing
Supports new business from Sales and R&D by quoting new raw materials and obtaining samples.
•             Timely processing of sample & quote requests from R&D and Sales.
•             Searches for manufacturers and distributors of new raw materials.
Requests samples and pricing to ensure proper quality is achieved and then negotiates best possible price with qualified suppliers.
4.  Manage Vendor Relationships
Manage supply chain stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in raw material costs. Focus on reducing raw material costs through direct purchasing from manufacturers. Develop multiple raw material sources for new products. 
Minimize the effect on standard gross margins due to purchase price variance. Insure there are at least two sources for 80% of raw material part codes.
5.  Inventory Control
Manage cycle count process to minimize inventory variance and ensure location integrity.
Maintain cycle count accuracy of 95% or better. Control the location integrity of raw materials brought into the plant.

Job Requirements

•             Chemical industry purchasing experience is a must
•             Bachelor’s degree; Engineering or Scientific degree a plus; MBA a plus
•             7 – 15 years of continuing responsibility growth in Purchasing or Supply Chain management
•             Demonstrated leadership and effective management of direct reports
•             Microsoft Office experience
•             ERP system experience
•             SQL/Microsoft Access experience a plus
•             Six Sigma experience a plus
