Job Description

The Contract Champion, for The Resource Group is responsible to provide User-Directed Strategic Sourcing support, knowledge and facilitation to our Participant Community at the Participant level.  The work of the Contract Champion will support the sourcing strategies and initiatives developed by System Office and Ascension, in close collaboration with senior leadership and key stakeholders throughout the organization. Reporting to the Vice President- User Directed Strategic Sourcing, works with local leadership to ensure that supply chain processes are consistent with and supportive of developed and identified sourcing strategies. Serve as key representative for The Resource Group in interactions with current and potential suppliers. Lead strategic sourcing projects, initiatives following established User Directed Strategic Sourcing policies, practices and processes.  Ensure that work complies with The Resource Group and Ascension policies and regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Achieve a competitive advantage in total cost, quality, technology and supply continuity.
  • Ensure that consistent, defendable sourcing strategies and supporting supply chain processes are in place and properly administered in compliance with all regulations and policies.
  • Identify, develop, implement and monitor opportunities for process improvement and value creation initiatives.
  • Develop, facilitate and sustain collaborative working relationships, at the Participant level, inclusive of each Ascension business unit, as applicable, through communications and updates on their contracting requests, which are to be entered into the proper toolset as forth by The Resource Group.
  • Provide regular updates on category strategies and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) programs, including key performance metrics and status of contracting activities, initiatives and Participant contracting requests.
  • Direct local, and assigned national, sourcing activities and support supply chain processes for supplies, services and equipment consistent with end user requirements for quality, quantity and function, assuring maximum leverage of The Resource Group’s collective purchasing power and exercising sound business judgment.
  • Identify and develop key initiatives into strategies and strategies into results, including monitoring success of implementation. 
  • Train and educate end-users, as applicable, on the User-Directed Strategic Sourcing process. 
  • As requested, accurately report the value creation and contracting results that is generated from the process and the report value that has on the organization and the respective Participant or Ascension business units, as applicable.


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce value results with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to establish and sustain relationships with a broad range of individuals and key leaders at the Participant level
  • Creates influence strategies that persuade key internal and external end users to take action that will support The Resource Group organization and goals

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors or equivalent required; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of supply chain experience.
  • Strong negotiation skills demonstrated across a range of supplier and product, service categories.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience in key elements of supply chain which may include; strategic sourcing, purchasing, contracting, planning and forecasting, inventory management, logistics, warehousing, change management, logistics and supplier relationship management.
  • Healthcare acute care experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex contract development and negotiation preferred.  
  • Strong analytical, business acumen and financial background.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, project management, leadership and interpersonal skills .
