Summary:  The Utilization Review Specialist conducts utilization review (UR) and coding activities for area of responsibility, in accordance with company policies and procedures.  The Utilization Review Specialist establishes and implements utilization review and coding practices and is accountable to ensure accurate coding on the OASIS document and ICD-9 (10).  The Utilization Review Specialist assists branches in ensuring excellent clinical outcomes, and accurate HHRG coding.   


Job Requirements

Education:  Registered Nurse, Bachelor's Degree preferred

Licenses/Certification:  Current OASIS C Certification and ICD-9 (10) coding certification preferred; required within 6 months of hire.  Current state license as a Registered Nurse. Current CPR certification preferred.  Current driver’s license.  Must have reliable transportation and insurance.

 
Experience:  Five years of professional experience in Home Care or Hospice, excellent understanding of OASIS and Medical Coding practice.  Strong knowledge of home health and  hospice regulations.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of Home Care and/or Hospice practice required. 
  • Strong knowledge of clinical guidelines/protocols. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to present to groups of all sizes are required.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Must be proactive, responsive and resourceful.
  • Highly flexible and motivated with an ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Must consistently demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and extended hours on occasion.
  • Requires working under some stress conditions to meet deadlines and agency needs.
  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
