Job Description

The RN - Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager with the operational supervision for specified nursing zones and has 24-hour accountability. Assists with interviews and hiring staff for area and assists with implementation strategies to retain staff. Helps provide leadership and guidance to assure that staff practices within established standards, policies and procedures. Assists with operational management to staff. Helps manage staffing to provide optimum patient care based on patient's needs and acuity. Participates in budgetary process. Accountable for proper utilization of personnel and material resources in accordance with budget. Assists Nurse Manager develop and promote partnership council structure in areas of responsibility. Supports and promotes Shared Leadership structure. In the absence of a RN may be required to function in the role of staff RN. Provides assistance to ensure that alliance standards of care and policies are consistently observed. Participates in development and upkeep of policy and procedures and is accountable for compliance with all pertinent JCAHO Standards along with local, state, and federal regulations. As part of the MSHA team, is required to participate in the Process Improvement programs. This position will involve the necessity of critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process.
The RN - Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for assisting with the care of the assigned patients and directs others to assure Patient-Centered Care which is based on patient needs, values, and choices. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules, and regulations established by the appropriate state's Board of Nursing, and knowledge of policies and procedures within Mountain States Health Alliance. He/she demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care based on meticulous application of the nursing process. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence based nursing practice and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collections, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality (KIQ's). This commitment to quality results in the assistance of developing and implementing actions plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements (Hold the Gains). The RN serves as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers. He/she demonstrates competency in the care of (circle all that apply): Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric patient.

MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work.
Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.
The RN - Assistant Nurse Manager helps with Nurse Manager with supervisory of all personnel assigned to their area. This position is in the organizational structure of MSHA SSUs, specifically for areas with Service Line Directors. Reports to the Nurse Manager to which they are assigned. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, reports to the director of the assigned zones. Helps coordinates activity of shift leaders and all ancillary staff assigned to areas. Works collaboratively with all departments to develop internal/external customer relationships, which will enhance patient care.
The competency and practice of point of care testing is under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Medical Director and/or designee per regulatory rule #1200-6-3-15 Alternate Site Testing, Section (1) (c), 9 of the Tennessee Medical Laboratory Board Division of Health Related Boards. This practice is a collaborative process with the Laboratory and Nursing Leaderships.

Job Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must be licensed in the appropriate state to practice professional nursing. Minimum of five years previous clinical experience preferred. BSN preferred.
1. Plans and conducts a minimum of two hours of job related educational programs.
2. Obtains 12 hours educational credit.
3. Verbalizes understanding of Shared Governance Model and willingly serves on at least one Shared Governance, hospital committee, task force, or project to improve patient care or work area.
4. Identifies relevant patient care and/or nursing practice KIQ's (key indicators of quality). This is achieved by using PDCA methodology and the appropriate data collection, aggregation, analysis and trending in the demonstration of measurable improvement outcomes.
5. Attends 75% of staff meetings and reads 100% of the minutes of the meetings missed.
