Job Description

This position provides clinical leadership, oversight, assessment, support and coordination of patient care operations and workflow activities provided by nursing, clinical, and support staff throughout the house for a designated shift to ensure consistent provision of developmentally appropriate quality patient care in accordance with all applicable federal, regulatory, professional standards and requirements.

Position Duties

1. Acts as resource and mentor to Clinical Supervisors for accessing clinical expertise, interpreting policies and procedures, providing regulatory compliance information and standards, and during difficult situations involving death/bereavement, organ donation, HIV counseling, and CPS issues.
  • Performs immediate drug screening as needed per policy.
2. Monitors performance of assigned supplemental pool staff and provides direction, coaching, recognition, counseling, and disciplinary action as appropriate. Ensures ongoing education to meet learning needs. Ensures staff progression through required competencies and documentation of same.
  • Completes and conducts 90 day, mid year, and annual reviews for assigned staff using performance appraisal guidelines.
3. Facilitates and works closely with Clinical Supervisors, Managers, and Directors by overseeing and providing a global perspective to facilitate patient placement for determining staffing levels of current and upcoming shift for the house by determining skill set mix required to ensure provision of safe, developmentally appropriate quality patient care.
  • Ensures effective and efficient patient throughput.
  • Facilitates staffing decisions to meet identified unit productivity targets.
4. Manages appropriate hospital-wide response to emergent situations including, but not limited to, code responses (cardiac arrest, fire, bomb threats, code blanket), internal and external disasters, and patient/family/visitor issues, by providing coordinated administrative oversight to ensure effective, efficient, and appropriate global operational activities. Assigns responsibilities until Administrator-on-Call arrives.
  • Maintains FEMA certifications
  • Participates in disaster drills.
5. Provides immediate intervention in employee relations or practice situations in the absence of a Manager or Director, up to and including administrative suspension pending investigation of incident to ensure maintenance of safe and professional workplace.
6. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Job Requirements

Education Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Employees in the House Supervisor role prior to 6/1/2012 must currently be enrolled and progressing toward a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. (Required)
Experience Requirements
  • Experience with pediatric patient populations (Preferred)
  • Three years professional clinical practice (Required)
Certification/License/Registry Requirements
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (Required)
  • Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association (Required)
  • Current State of Arizona RN license (Required)
  • Current Certified Pediatric Nursing (Required)
