We are currently looking for an Applications Architect for a client in South Orange, NJ with strong hands-on Java programming experience. This person must have strong technical skills with the following technologies: Java, SQL, UML, XML, SOAP, SOA, Web services, and RESTful architecture. The primary responsibilities of the Application Architect are: 1) to ensure that the application software, as designed, meets the functional and technical requirements by providing direction and conducting reviews and formal evaluations of the application architecture/technical solutions and development work for quality, completeness, and adherence to university and industry standards; 2) act as subject matter expert on the application architecture so as to be instrumental in making design observations and recommendations from both a tactical and strategic perspective so that applications can be maintained and operated in a cost effective manner; 3) ensure that vendors solutions meet key technical and functional requirements for performance, operability, and maintainability. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Work with executives and end-users to conceptualize a new application project, recommends technical resources and strategies, then designs the requirements for the project. After the application is developed or purchased, directs the implementation by evaluating, testing and modifying the application until the functionality meets the business requirements. 2. Become expert in and document the architectural dependencies between all applications including all modules of Banner, common software components, programs and configurable items. Review and formally evaluate vendor's proposed application software architectures (including integration points with external systems) for adherence to industry and project standards. 3. Continually review and formally evaluate vendor's proposed toolset in terms of appropriateness for development and on-going maintenance. Make recommendations to App Dev management on training and professional development for staff to align their skills with the vendor toolsets and industry standards. 4. Identify a set of technical requirements to address performance, operability and maintainability of all applications and ensure these are addressed across platforms. Review and provide feedback on all designs in terms of technical feasibility and impact on performance, operability and maintainability. 5. Assists application development staff, through mentoring, understanding the tactical application architecture requirements for new projects and technologies. Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration and 5 to 8 years experience in application architecture and object oriented application development. Experience with one or more Software Development Life Cycle methodologies. Java programming experience. Experience in application development, architecture design and vendor review. Must have experience in project management and software development lifecycle. Position requires practical and theoretical knowledge of all aspects of application development, requirements gathering, specification writing. Must have Java and object oriented development experience. Must be able to provide clear written communication to management, executives, vendors and partners. Must be able to create and edit functional and technical requirements documents, and technical specifications.
