Major Gifts Officer

Job Description

This position will identify, develop, implement and record all aspects of a comprehensive major gift programs from individual prospects to increase awareness and support of hospital programs, initiatives and goals through philanthropic giving. This position receives regular review of completed work activities from the Director of Major Gifts and Foundation Giving and the SVP, Chief Development Officer. This position does not supervise any staff members.

Position Duties

1. •Actively participates and engages in a variety of planned cultivation/solicitation activities to ensure achievement of major gift fundraising goals and objectives.•Actively participates in field research through identifying, developing, and maintaining contacts with prospects and volunteers.•Initiates and maintains relationships with major gift prospects and donors including, but not limited to individuals and the business and foundation community to promote and increase community awareness and support through major gift and planned giving. •Develops expertise in Hospital Centers of Excellence and service lines; serves as a Foundation liaison in assisting physicians, program directors and administration with capital and programmatic funding needs.•Maintains a portfolio of 100 or more prospects and continually makes measurable moves in identifying, researching, cultivating and soliciting a group of top 25 prospects.•Prepares major gift solicitation objectives, financial goals and budget guidelines; prepares regular reports of major gift activity and results against target to provide basis for assessing impact and success rate. • Works toward achieving agreed upon performance metrics of prospects cultivated, calls made, proposals developed, solicitations, gifts closed and dollars raised.•Works closely and in conjunction with Director and Senior Vice President, Foundation and other staff members/volunteers to develop and finalize strategies for cultivation and solicitation of major donor prospects to ensure effective coordination of activities.
2. •Plans, develops, implements and evaluates various prospect cultivation and donor recognition programs and strategies to engage and increase interest of agents of wealth throughout the local, regional and national community.•Plans, develops, implements and evaluates a variety of ongoing communication programs designed to promote and educates various audiences about philanthropic giving.
3. •Works closely with Director and Senior Vice President, Foundation and other staff members to identify and develop relationships with major gift prospects and donors to maximize long-term and continued giving potential.•Maintains professional competency through constantly pursuing knowledge and self-improvement remaining apprised of current trends and developments including awareness of latest technology and practices to improve outcomes.
4. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Job Requirements

Education Requirements
  • Bachelors in Business or related field. (Required)
Experience Requirements
  • Five years experience in fund-raising with two of those years closing major and planned gifts. (Required)
  • Hospital or Healthcare Experience. (Preferred)
  • Experience in front line fundraising. (Required)
  • Experience with Raisers Edge or similar industry based prospect management tools (Required)
Certification/License/Registry Requirements
  • CFRE designation (Preferred)
