Job Description

We are looking to hire a
Systems Engineer
for a software company in Jacksonville, FL. This is a full time, permanent role with great benefits and competitive pay and we are looking to interview and hire immediately.
















































  • Evaluates, designs, deploys, administers, and supports the company’s IT systems, services, and software
  • Adheres to high professional standards in security, documentation, confidentiality and communication
  • Creates appropriate standards and procedures for Infrastructure compliance
  • Retains deep understanding of system components that make up current and evaluated technology
  • Mentors and leads other more junior engineers and admins
  • Solves increasingly complex issues and assists the service desk when problems escalate to the highest level of complexity or require special permissions or levels of security
  • Develops IT solutions to prevent recurring issues
  • Uses internal and external resources to deliver projects, deliver system implementations, and troubleshoot complex issues as they arise by working closely with vendors and consultants
  • Contributes key input on project work and process improvements and drives them to fruition
  • Reviews developments in new technology to determine best practices, makes appropriate recommendations, and creates design specifications for new projects
  • Creates functional and layout diagrams and workflows that help others to understand an overall system design
  • Performs recurring maintenance, preventative maintenance and approved upgrades on a prescribed basis
  • Maintains and ensures safe, secure, and well-organized co-location environments for IT related equipment, including installing or removing hardware as needed
  • Possesses a deep level of practical knowledge of server operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, or AIX, virtualization technologies, anti-malware methods, security best practices, backup and restore, HA and DR technologies
  • Responds to emergency situations as they arise
  • Reviews existing systems and creates strategic long term plans for growth/usage recommendations that consider system resource usage and operating system/ software package versions
  • Manages projects, identifies key stakeholders, and provides proper notification for any system deployments, updates, or changes
  • Delegates tasks to other systems engineers when the workload dictates additional man-hour resources
  • Works closely with vendors or contractors to ensure that work is performed accurately and timely and closely follows the project scope
  • Creates detailed documentation for all systems projects, including diagrams, solutions documentation, root cause analysis, server and application environment documentation, and documentation related to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records
  • Interprets proposed vendor specifications and modifies accordingly to suit company systems and technology needs for all projects based on resource availability and best practices
  • Implements an accepted testing method and creates a contingency plans prior to deployment to production
  • Identifies systems and devices requiring ongoing maintenance, including patches and upgrades
  • Schedules required system and service outages through the service desk
  • Organizes and maintains computer rooms and data center suites
  • Researches new technologies by attending professional workshops, seminars, vendor presentations, and other related events
  • Provides weekly reports and project status updates upon request
  • Executes system performance analysis to maintain adequate system and service functioning and efficiency
  • Manages tools used for monitoring, notifying, and reporting
  • Responsible for UniData database administration and AIX operating system administration
  • Manages servers, including e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software
  • Administers equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
  • Responsible for network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  • Performs system backups and recovery
  • Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports
  • Collaborates with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
  • Ensures system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications
  • Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex PC problems for a variety of end users, and recommends/implements corrective hardware solutions, including off-site repair if needed
  • Responsible for Microsoft Windows infrastructure and performs daily support of the Windows Server environment
  • Works with a variety of business areas to maintain and support Microsoft Windows Servers running 2003, 2008, and .NET technology
  • Key areas of expertise include Windows Servers, security, server monitoring, and network infrastructure
  • Supports and troubleshoots Windows server applications developed in-house and externally
  • Provide son-site support to diagnose and resolve both emergency and chronic problems related to hardware and software availability, security, performance, connectivity, and overall functionality
  • Works with development staff to implement changes to applications and troubleshoot application problems
  • Installs software, configures systems, upgrades or troubleshoots equipment, and performs system setup
  • Demonstrates flexibility in dealing with scheduling changes and new client situations
  • Create and maintain Windows scripts



  • Must have at least 5 years of systems administration and/or systems engineering experience, including security, performance, connectivity, functionality, documentation, testing, backup/recovery, scripting, servers, network, virtualization, storage, testing, monitoring, anti-malware, installations, upgrades, and ongoing support









  • Must have demonstrated experience with: VPN, End User Support, MS SQL, SCCM, Storage, Visio, Red Hat, NetApp, Windows, Exchange, Linux or AIX, Virtualization, Anti-Malware Methods, Backup/Recovery, Security Best Practices, AIX, UniData, IIS, and HA and DR Technologies
  • Able to work independently and to direct others work, follow an assigned work schedule, and meet deadlines for all project and troubleshooting responsibilities
  • Must be able to resolve all issues to completion, as dictated by the requirements for a certain system, and be flexible when troubleshooting extends beyond the average work day
  • Preferred Certifications: A+, Net +, CCNA, MCP, MSCE, ITIL v.3
  • Must have excellent communication (written and verbal)
  • Must work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Work independently and be self-motivated
