Mgr, Patient Access Reg & Admt

Job Description

This position oversees the management and daily operations of Patient Registration and Admitting services including Inpatient, Radiology and Main Tower Surgery registration, Emergency Department Registration, and Financial Counseling. Provides service excellence at each stage of the registration process to all customers. Ensures achievement of financial and non-financial goals in support of the mission, goals, and objectives of Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Position Duties

1. Develops and revises policies and procedures for the Patient Access teams. Is involved in the budget process and recommends purchase of equipment and systems.
2. Develops and supervises staff through provision of timely feedback and use of appropriate Human Resources policies and tools to facilitate and ensure the ability of staff to achieve highest level of professional growth and desired performance standards.
3. Develops, establishes, implements, and evaluates systems to monitor accuracy and timeliness of registration. Monitors up-front cash collection efforts and provides timely feedback to management team for fiscal responsibilities. Ensures compliance with all laws and regulations pertaining to Registration, Admitting and Credit and Collections.
  • Monitors and trends Key Performance Indicators for Patient Access. Trends results and reports findings to Director with recommendations for improvement as needed. Monitors and trends self-pay complex patients and trends progress for reporting to Director.
4. Hires, fires, disciplines, evaluates, and effectively motivates Patient Access team to meet high levels of Service Excellence. In conjunction with Supervisors, ensures staff is scheduled appropriately and in accordance with volume and workflow indicators to ensure compliance with department goals
5. Monitors QA results and identifies training opportunities or other solutions to address needs.
  • Works closely with Training Coordinator to develop programs for staff. Monitors QA results and makes recommendations for training opportunities.
6. Participates in various facility and system-wide process improvement teams and IT system implementations.
7. Provides timely review and feedback to management team for fiscal responsibilities of designated areas, reflecting optimal use of all resources.
8. Serves as a resource for staff to identify appropriate protocols regarding specific health plan criteria. Facilitates interaction with health plan, as necessary, to ensure compliance with current authorization guidelines and requirements.
9. Works closely and cooperatively with all areas and departments of PCH and PCMG to identify issues, concerns and areas for increased efficiencies to develop effective integrated solutions
10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Job Requirements

Education Requirements
  • Bachelors in Business or related field or combination of education and experience (Required)
Experience Requirements
  • Five years management and or leadership experience. (Required)
  • Seven (7) years related healthcare experience which includes a minimum of two (2) years experience in a hospital and/or professional registration, insurance verification and authorization, financial counseling department. (Required)
  • Strong working knowledge of managed care, other third-party payers and AHCCCS/Medicaid. (Required)
  • AMPFM, Misys, Chartmaxx and Payor Website Portal experience. (Preferred)
  • Experience in a pediatric environment. (Preferred)
Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of CPT/ICD codes and an understanding of medical terminology, HIPAA privacy laws, and consent for care regulations. (Required)
  • Strong/effective oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (Required)
