Job Description

Job Summary:  

This position plays a key role in implementing and supporting the decision support cost accounting function throughout Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI).  Thisposition works with managers and senior leadership on issues related to costaccounting while coordinating with other teams in the areas of financial orclinical analysis and reporting, budgeting, and reimbursement contract management.The analyst ensures the integrity of cost accounting values at the patient clinical data level.  This person will process and reconcile cost data at the patient clinical leveldaily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly 

Essential Duties:

  1. Maintains open communication with assigned hospital clients to enhance the client’s knowledge of the CHI decision support cost model.  This includes utilizing online communication tools, phone calls, and site visits.  Excellent customer service is vital for this position. 
  1. Develops a thorough understanding and knowledge of decision support cost methods and information as well as a general understanding of the various applications including flexible budgets, operating budget design, reimbursement contract models, and product line analysis.  Assists client facility managers and senior leadership’s understanding and analysis of the decision support cost information.
  1. Responsible for understanding and documenting expense/cost treatment issues for the enterprise.  Participates in the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the CHI decision support cost system at assigned healthcare facilities as directed. These activities include applying cost accounting standards, assisting with gathering and validating RVU’s, setting up indirect allocation structure.  Assists with training client hospital management in the complete functionality of the decision support cost system.
  1. Completes audits and reconciliations to the general ledger and source patient accounting systems for all assigned facilities according to established schedule and reports any issues on a timely basis.  Shares results of audits and reconciliations with client hospitals to assure their comprehension of the validity of the decision support patient level cost data. 
  1. Assists with training and mentoring client hospital personnel on the functionality, navigation, and reporting tools in the decision support cost system with the goal that key hospital employees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the patient level cost information available from the system.  Occasional public presentations to various audiences may be required. 
  1. Assists in the global understanding and cost support for the development of reports and analysis for hospital operations such as measurement of financial performance, reimbursement trending, and clinical improvement. 
  1. Actively participates in workgroups and task forces for various national and local projects to accomplish certain goals.  

8. Keeps the National Cost Accounting DSS Manager or Senior Analyst informed timely about any issues that arise, suggestrecommendations for process improvement, and works closely with other analyststo share knowledge

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree ina business or related field or master’s degree in lieu of experience noted below.(MBA, MHA, MPH, MS Decision Science or other master related to healthcare oranalytics preferred)


Required: Two years of financial maintenance and analysis or reporting in any industry or, experience in healthcare patient data maintenance. Provenproficiency with MS Excel.
