Job Description

Group Sales & Marketing Planner

Reports to:  Group Sales & Marketing Manager     



Position Summary

The Media Planner will support the sales efforts of the Tribune Broadcasting Group Sales and Marketing Team by developing and creating sales concepts and proposals; obtaining schedules, pricing, posting and proof-of-performance from Tribune media properties; and evaluating our product and delivery alternatives against client objectives.  The Media Planner will work with Sales and Marketing Leaders to develop customized media plans based on the clients’ needs from start to finish. 



Primary Responsibilities

  • Key role stewardship of buys, including communicating directly with appropriate agency and client counterparts

  • Develop pricing strategies and negotiate internal rates and plans for media buys

  • Create media plans to address clients needs

  • Develop presentation materials to support the sales efforts of the team

  • Execute all buys and optimize the buys during the media campaign

  • Provide data and evaluate post buys to ensure demo impression delivery meets client expectations

  • Create and build the media recap for internal and external customers

  • Verify inventory availability with stations throughout the sales proposal process

  • Pull and compare historical billing reports for clients to support sales team

  • Provide other marketing support sales administrative/account related support as needed

  • Serve as backup contact, especially when AE is unavailable

  • Work with VP to collect weekly pending reports from Directors



Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree

  • At least four years of work experience in a media environment a must

  • Agency planner experience highly desired

  • A Strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite is a must

    • Outlook, Word, Powerpoint proficient – EXCELLENT Excel skills

  • Smart Internet Research – ability to cut through clutter

  • Strong knowledge of media math and audience metrics required

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required

  • An ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is vital 

  • Thrives in a team environment

  • Strong understanding of Local Broadcasting and Digital Platforms preferred

  • Working knowledge of sales support systems and databases

  • Ability to alternate from internal work to client interaction

  • Extremely detail oriented

  • Position based in Chicago

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation

  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

  • Must be available to evenings and weekends as necessary
