Job Description

We are seeking an Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineer to join the Transportation-Infrastructure practice in support of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems), traffic and network engineering initiatives for our road, highway and tolling team. The successful candidate will perform conventional and moderately-complex ITS, traffic and network engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses.  RS&H is flexible on location.
The ideal applicant must demonstrate technical competency in ITS and traffic engineering technology as it relates to the planning, engineering, design, and operational needs of ITS systems (both freeway and arterial networks). Duties may include technical analysis and documentation, field investigations, and data collection/compilation. To be selected you must possess exceptional communication skills in order to develop high-quality written, verbal, and graphical deliverables in the form of progress reports, operational concepts, technology reviews, designs, specifications, presentations, and proposals. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Assists in the preparation of detailed intelligent transportation systems drawings including electrical power and communications one-line and system diagrams
  • Assists in the preparation of conduit layout plans and details, quantity calculations, technical reports, and detailed analyses
  • Edits specifications and researches materials and methods for inclusion in specifications
  • Reviews supplier drawing submittals and assists with technical bid analyses
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with CADD technicians and entry-level engineers working on the same project
  • Performs field investigations and assists with troubleshooting field equipment
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited university is required
  • 2-4 years of experience with the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems Plans and Specifications
  • EI required, professional engineering license is highly desired
  • Perform quality, schedule and cost control activities on assigned projects and tasks
  • Effectively manage and deliver on existing and new project
  • Working knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD and other PC software packages (MS Office Suite) typically associated with engineering
