Job Description

Job Purpose:

Leads the delivery of journal branded mobile apps globally on iOS & Android platforms. Initial specific focus will be to roll out and maintain 100-200 individual journal-branded mobile apps for iTunes and Android for US, Europe and International publications in Health & Medical Sciences and as required in Science & Technology journals.

After initially producing mobile apps, this role continuously plans and coordinates 2-4 product upgrades each year working closely with publishers, societies, marketing and the app store. The role ensures high usage by improving product features. Also performs product testing & manages cross organization product-related communications related to rollout and maintenance of mobile apps.

Key Result Area and Main Responsibilities:

Technical Product Rollouts and ongoing enhancements:

• Works directly with development and production teams to create product launch schedules and manage expectations for delivery among stakeholder groups

• Leads weekly product rollout planning meeting and monitors ongoing actions to ensure product launch success

• Manages communications with all stakeholder groups (publishing, marketing, commercial sales, production, customer service, society IT contacts, etc.) through all stages of the project

• Coordinates with various teams to ensure completeness of all facets of the product (e.g product access, pricing, promotional descriptions, advertising setup, etc.)

• Participates in all app testing; is valuable resource in ongoing product development

• Provides publishers and their partners with up-to-date information and toolkits to ensure their full understanding of app features/functionality

• Develops journal website and platform updates to ensure promotion of the app and facilitate successful subscriber access; coordinates these effort with publishing and marketing

Job Requirements

• BA/BS degree

• Grasps technical concepts affecting products which are software based and effectively communicates them broadly to lay audiences

• Ability to lead & influence large cross-functional groups without direct reporting control. Assertive but positive in leading via indirect influence.

• 2+ years in digital journal publishing environment, some experience with mobile apps

• Proficient in all aspects of project management process. Ability to effectively prioritize, execute tasks, and handle a range of projects simultaneously within a high-pressure environment

• Relationship management: Manage multiple stakeholders’ expectations.

• Goal oriented team-builder: Sets measureable goals for teams and creates a sense of personal accountability for all team members. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communications skills

• Process driven, highly organized and methodical with excellent time management skills, strong ethics, and understanding of the STM publishing business imperative

• An enthusiastic and committed attitude, flexible problem-solver, open to participate and promote change within the organization

• Technical skills: MS Office Suite, Acrobat Professional, iTunes. Familiarity with apps on Tablets & smartphones.
