JOB SUMMARY
General responsibility for service area may include: accident investigations; OSHA inspections; asbestos O&M/projects; certificates of environmental compliance; emergencies including chemical spills, odor complaints, fire investigations, floods; IAQ/IH surveys; ergonomic surveys; lab safety issues including inspections; personal protective equipment assessments; general plan reviews; safety concerns; and client relationship management. May have overall responsibility for management of specific environmental/safety programs and training programs

Job Requirements


Bachelor's degree or higher in science, engineering, occupational health and safety or another relevant field required,
5 years of experience.

Advanced degree in science, engineering, occupational health and safety or another relevant field preferred.
Relevant certification (Hazardous Materials Technician or higher classification, OSHA 30-hour construction, IDPH Asbestos Building Inspector/Project Manger) preferred.

Knowledge of relevant codes and standards associated with regulatory agencies such as Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (tJC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT). Ability to wear respiratory protection as part of the emergency response team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently, complete required documentation accurately and timely, and accurately maintain records, accounts and files on computer.

Significant knowledge of relevant federal, state and local compliance laws and regulations required.
Problem-solving, Organizational, Decision-making skills with attention to detail required.
Interpersonal skills required.
In rotation with three other staff members, able to act as the Medical Center Safety Officer On-Call. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a high degree of initiative required.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines required.
Ability to manage stressful situations required.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
