 Responsibilities:

  • Assure that plant and cost accounting functions are performed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and Trinity Industries and TrinityRail accounting and control guidelines
  • Assure that standard material costs, and standard labor and burden rates are updated and documented as required
  • Assure that all other inventory and product cost components are analyzed and updated as necessary
  • Assure that physical inventory is adequately controlled, including compliance with the cycle count program, & physical inventory count and control procedures
  • Assure that revenue is properly recognized and that related cost and statistical transactions are recorded accurately and timely
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger and supporting sub-ledgers
  • Prepare journal entries, participate in the monthly accounting close, and prepare variance analysis and explanations.
  • Prepares TrinityRail financial, operational and statistical reports
  • Prepare audit schedules and support activities of internal and external auditors, and supports internal control requirements (Sarbanes-Oxley 404)
  • Monitors cost and capital spending activity
  • Conducts various cost system studies and analysis
  • Participate as a team member or leader in cost automation and integration projects
  • Be a contributing member to various plant continuous improvement teams
  • Recommends and implements approved process and control enhancements
  • Provides management support and assistance as necessary

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Minimum three to five years cost accounting experience
  • Light travel
  • Must possess effective communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Willing to work as necessary to complete
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel / Microsoft Office products           

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with BPCS or similar ERP system
  • Familiar with Oracle Financials
  • Familiar with Hyperion Essbase
