Job Description

The Director, Research Programs has management responsibility for coordinating and stimulating research and creative activity within Phoenix Children's Research Institute. The Director manages and grows external collaborations to achieve the short and long-term goals of the Research Institute. This position leads efforts in intellectual property evaluation and strategies. Other responsibilities are to develop and maintain operational policies and procedures and to work with the Communications Department at PCH to publicize and raise external and internal awareness of the activities and achievements of the Research Institute.

Position Duties

1. Assists CRO/SVP to develop short and long term strategies to improve the research support needs of investigators at PCHRI
2. Leads efforts in IP evaluation and develop the IP portfolios within the PCHRI
3. Assists CRO/SVP in identifying research areas with high probability of external funding
4. Maintains high quality, responsive, collegial, and trustworthy relationships with the external funding agencies supporting research at PCHRI
5. Interacts with funding agencies to market the PCHRI capabilities and foster collaborative efforts with other institutions and organizations
6. Develops programs to stimulate synergistic interactions among institute scientists and external institutes
7. Assists in prioritizing allocation of PCHRI funds
8. Develops content for the PCHRI website by close communications with PCH scientists and physician researchers
9. Works closely with Marketing and Communications to publicize research activities and achievements
10. Benchmarks PCHRI trends in scientific output, such as peer-reviewed publications, reports, proposals and patents
11. Develops and maintains written operational policies and procedures for the institute
12. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Job Requirements

Education Requirements
  • Ph.D. and/or Masters level scientists in the biological sciences or health sciences related field (Required)
Experience Requirements
  • Project/program management experience (Preferred)
  • Five (5) or more years of work experience in academics, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical industry and/or healthcare industry (Required)

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (Required)
