Local Unit & Position Description

Tasks may include:

  • Conduct detailed technical review and independent assessment of civil construction documentation including:
    • Plans and specifications;
    • Design calculations and studies;
    • Construction submittals;
    • Test documentation;
    • Construction job books and QA/QC documentation;
    • Foundation drawings and calculations;
    • Geotechnical reports;
    • Ground improvement recommendations and documentation;
    • Seismic hazard analyses;
    • Liquefaction hazard evaluation and mitigation recommendations.
  • Conduct construction monitoring inspections of projects to verify compliance with:
    • Construction plans and specifications, geotechnical reports;
    • Applicable code requirements and standards and good construction practice;
  • Develop conceptual designs and technical specifications, manage and review proposals, and support contract negotiations on behalf of clients;
  • Support Construction Management activities through monitoring/management of costs, progress, contract interface, and quality programs, and facilitation of construction problem resolution;
  • Write detailed reports of reviews and inspections;

  • Provide regulatory and permitting consulting to clients;
  • Develop conceptual designs and technical specifications, manage and review tenders, and support contract negotiations on behalf of clients;
  • Support Construction Management activities through monitoring/management of costs, progress, contract interface, and quality programs, and facilitation of construction problem resolution;
  • Write detailed reports of reviews and inspections;

Job Requirements

What we're asking:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
    • Masters of Science in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Entry level to 5 years’ experience
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT), PE/P.Eng. preferred
  • Willingness and ability to satisfactorily pass a background investigation and drug screen
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel
  • Analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel foundation structures from a geotechnical engineering perspective;
  • Field experience in evaluating as-built conditions with respect to intended designs in consideration of both structural and geotechnical requirements;
  • Calculation tools such as MathCAD, Excel;
  • Geotechnical applications such as L-Pile, GROUP, slope stability, liquefaction and settlement analyses and FEA packages such as FLAC, Plaxis, AMPS, ABAQUS, etc. Behavioral competencies
  • Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job:
    • Able to sit for long periods of time;
    • Repetitive tasks, typing, sitting and interacting with computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) part of time.
    • Working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in office.
    • Able to occasionally lift 20 lbs.
    • Walk over rough or slippery terrain as experienced on heavy construction sites;
    • Work in inclement weather conditions as experienced in the North America;
  • Experience with soil-foundation-structure interaction preferred;
  • Experience in geotechnical earthquake engineering and earthquake resistant design preferred.
