Director Physical Plant, Methodist Health System, Dallas, TX
Reporting to the Vice President Operations, the Director of Physical Plant directs the operation and function of engineering and grounds departments, and acts as Safety Officer for Methodist Health System.
Coaches and develops the skills and talents of the department employees. Supervises and participates in the hiring, training, evaluating, and employee relations of departmental staff.
The director integrates engineering’s activities with the facilities primary functions.
Coordinates and integrates engineering’s services within the hospital to insure adherence to regulatory agencies as well as organizational policies and guidelines.
The director promotes efforts to continually improve the value of departmental activities as well as those of the entire organization.
Acting as the Safety Officer, coordinates and facilitates ongoing compliance with standards established by regulatory bodies.
Researches products and services, designs and develops plans for remodeling and construction projects. Evaluates bids for contractual services and construction projects, coordinated coordinates work, and verifies work completed.
The director maintains up to date training and knowledge of plant operations, engineering, construction, safety, and facilities management.
Bachelor’s degree in Plant Engineering Management, related degree, or equivalent work experience
Valid driver’s license
Related Work Experience:
Minimum five years work experience hospital plant and facilities management required.
Ten plus year’s physical plant, HVAC, plant operations, and/or facilities management work experience.
Plant management experience including daily operations
Supervisory experience minimum ten (10) person staff
Experience in developing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program which includes JCAHO, NFPA, CMS, and TDH, federal, state, and local regulations
Experience managing construction and remodeling projects
Experience preparing and working within annual operating budgets
Knowledge of all aspects of physical plant operations; including but not limited to HVAC, hazards, high voltage, contaminated materials, machinery, and equipment
Demonstrated understanding of hospital guidelines
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and hospital management
On call twenty-four (24) hours a day
Preferred membership in NFPA, ASHE, and TAHE
Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and leadership
Self starter, focused on results, meets deadlines
Understanding of budgets, proposals, and budgetary restraints
Ability to directly supervise subordinates and department team supervisors
Proactive as opposed to reactive problems addressed, appropriate problem analysis, develops recommendations, and takes appropriate action in problem resolution
