The Gannett Design Studio at The Tennessean in Nashville is seeking an experienced newspaper page designer with bold, innovative Page 1A or Sports covers in his/her portfolio. Come join our 60-designer team as we brainstorm and create together to build dramatic pages for our readers in Nashville, Jackson MS, Fort Myers FL, Tallahassee FL and eight other markets. The qualified candidate will have five years of experience designing section fronts of a daily newspaper, though a designer with exceptional weekly, magazine or college newspaper designs in his/her portfolio may be considered. Help mentor design teammates and collaborate with editors and reporters to help them better tell their stories through great visual journalism.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suites and other design and illustration programs is helpful. Must be able to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with editors and reporters at other locations. Must demonstrate ability to increase proficiency in technical and editorial skills. The seven-day characteristic of daily newspapers requires each staff member to be independent and innovative in the face of unexpected problems, to demonstrate the initiative to respond to breaking news and technology problems, and to work night and weekend shifts as assigned.
