Job Description

BASIC DESCRIPTION:
This position is located in Portland Oregon.
The Field Application Engineer is responsible for providing process technical support (emphasis on pre- and post- sale) to the ITW sales team for identified key industrial accounts. This position will work with end user accounts on welding related projects to increase the pull through of ITW Welding Products and to defend key accounts where ITW has a strong presence by documenting welding process improvements and solutions that deliver value to the customer. Close collaboration with all ITW welding sales personnel to identify and support large end-user conversion opportunities and defend key accounts. Must be a self-starter, aggressive, and a good team player, and possess the ability to make independent decisions and follow through to completion.

Primary Product Responsibilities include: ITW Welding Solutions with a strong starting focus on Miller Welding Equipment and Hobart Filler Metals. Position responsibilities will also include MIG Guns (robotic, automated, and manual), Industrial Fume Extraction, and knowledge of Flexible and Fixed Automation.

Key Measurements Include:
•Revenue Growth
•Incremental sales growth of targeted industrial products
•Account Conversions
•Account Retention
•Win ratio of targeted conversion accounts for the ITW sales teams

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Create compelling, fact based ROI presentations and implement ROI solutions that focus on adoption of ITW products for key customers.
•Understanding complete process and application details of where specific products are used
•Create and articulate product conversion justification reports, presentations, and business correspondence.
•Assist other ITW sales resources with technical knowledge to support presentation of the full
ITW Welding Products customer value proposition.
•Identify and evaluate manufacturing constraints/opportunities with the targeted customers.
•Provide yearly KAM (key account management) reviews to large end-users which will encompass yearly cost savings and support provided.
•Maintain consistent communications between ITW sales resources, the distributor, key end users, and the ITW operating business Units.
•Reporting on activities, opportunities, and project status with the ITW operating units.
•Provide on-going training and support for key area of product concentration with end-users and distributors.
•Serve as the Subject Matter Expert regarding fabrication/manufacturing processes, welding (full range of processes and mechanical requirements) and welding gases.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•BS in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology or equivalent experience to perform all duties mentioned above.
•Strong communication, math and interpersonal skills. Understanding of welding economics.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ Years practical experience in a welding fabrication/manufacturing environment, implementing/changing welding procedures.
  • Basic understanding of welding economics.
  • Strong communication, math and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Certificate, Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical Discipline
  • Overnight travel at least 50%.
