  • Director, Emergency Services, Patient Care Services works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to provide clinical and administrative leadership for Emergency Services. This leadership position is responsible for quality and standards of patient care, performance improvement, program management, business operations, budget and resource utilization, and management development for Mount Carmel's Emergency Services. This position functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the Organization to strive for continuous improvement while ensuring the fulfillment of the MCHS mission.

    Current license to practice nursing in Ohio as a Registered Nurse.  Baccalaureate degree in nursing required.  Master's degree in nursing, healthcare, business or other related field preferred.  Five years of progressively responsible leadership in Emergency Services.  Ability to develop and implement Mount Carmel's Emergency Services.  Evidence of effective leadership and management abilities.  Evidence of effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  Proven leadership skills related to motivating and empowering staff.  Evidence of ability to effectively develop and coach multidisciplinary teams.  Experience in program development and product line management.  Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements in Emergency Services.

    Reports to Vice President and CNO, Patient Care Services.  Responsible for the direct supervision of managers as indicated in the organizational structure

    Essential Responsibilities:

  • Managing Performance: Responsible for the overall operation and administrative duties for the Emergency Services. Provides coaching, support, guidance and developmental opportunities for managers in designated areas. Evaluates performance in terms of skills, knowledge, ability and productivity. Develops managers to effectively recruit, develop, counsel, manage and retain staff. Supports fair and consistent Human Resources policy execution.
  • Planning: Collaborates with Medical Director and all disciplines on the healthcare team and within the Organization to develop goals and objectives, performance targets and business and strategic plans as appropriate for designated areas. Develops new programs in response to identified community, organizational and/or patient needs.
  • Financial Performance: Ensures financial performance and profitability of designated areas through the development and monitoring of the operating and capital budgets and department contracts in accordance with the Finance Department's standards.
  • Performance Improvement: Oversees and directs quality monitoring for designated areas, focusing on achieving and maintaining ED scorecard at top deciles, regulatory compliance, risk management, and continuous quality and process improvement.
  • Communication: Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all stakeholders and community organizations to promote service to all customers. Fosters an environment that ensures designated areas have the information necessary to function optimally.
  • Service Excellence:  Develops and oversees strategies to achieve and maintain top deciles levels of patient, staff and physician satisfaction.  Understands and translates stakeholder expectations and needs.  Fosters service culture within designated areas.  Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as defined by MCHS.
