Area Manager

Summary: As part of the Rust-Oleum Outside Sales Team, your focus will be to grow territory sales by acting as a category consultant to independent hardware stores and to successfully manage local distributors within the territory. This individual must be a motivated self starter, adept at analyzing complex situations, proposing solutions and following through to completion. This position will work from a home based office, preferably in the Portland market and will include travel throughout Oregon and SW Washington.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain regular contact with customers to identify business opportunities, and to present new products
  • Identify customer needs to facilitate product recommendations, and planogram recommendations
  • Work with the Rust-Oleum credit department to manage customer accounts
  • Work with customer service to assure customer satisfaction on orders and set pricing
  • Manage territory expense budgets
  • Achieve quarterly sales objectives

Job Requirements

Area Manager

  • 1 - 3 years of previous outside sales experience is preferred
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a business related field or equivalent work experience
  • Must currently reside in the assigned territory
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and have maintained a motor vehicle record within acceptable limits as prescribed by Rust-Oleum
  • Prior experience in a sales service role with demonstrated success in customer retention
  • Proven history of exceptional follow up skills
  • Proven history of working with diverse customer base
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills - dealing with customer complaints in a timely manner to identify appropriate solutions
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format
  • Requires appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively analyze a customer's business and successfully communicate how our products and services can meet and/or exceed their needs
  • Ability to understand pricing, calculate discounts and profit associated with selling price
  • Ability to calculate commissions associated with territory performance
  • Ability to analyze territory performance reports and develop sales territory business plans
  • Ability to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and write reports to communicate the information
  • Availability to work and travel within assigned territory 40-50% of time
  • Periodic evening and weekend hours required for Co-Op Shows and customer events
  • Previous retail selling experience strongly desired, Co-Op experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and various Internet applications
  • This position requires a high energy individual, who is customer oriented, and self motivated
