Job Description

Acts on a consistent basis to support the Mission, Vision and Values of MLHC.� Assumes daily responsibility for submitting charges of patient and hospital accounts.� Works independently in processing of accounts.� Knowledgeable and current in third party payer requirements.� Posts all bills monthly and runs routine reports for management reporting on a monthly basis.� Responds to hospital or patient inquiries regarding charges, company protocols and invoices and, as needed, refers them to the appropriate person.� Enters billing information and demographics, when necessary.� Reviews accuracy of entries, balances accounting reports, and makes deposits on a daily basis.� Follows up on aged accounts using standardized departmental procedure.

Researches credit balances to assure reimbursement to companies, patients or appropriate third party.� Responds to insurance company or legal requests for supplemental information to facilitate processing in accordance with department and MLH policy.� Oversees patient billing files.� Reviews certification/referrals and works with office staff to ensure accuracy.� Utilizes hospital computer system and patient access.� Ensures all reports are photocopied and sent to referring physicians.� Maintains statistics for market analysis and projected growth.� Types and copies all letters, charts, memos, and tables and forms from composition, drafts, and dictation. Prepares all outlines, papers and materials for presentation at conferences and continuing education lectures.

Maintains department, hospital and system policy and procedure manuals. Types and maintains files of Center correspondence, reports and memos.� Performs other duties as assigned.


Successful completion of all orientation requirements.

Minimum of three years recent secretarial experience required.

Proficient in Windows/Microsoft Office preferred.

Ability to use general office equipment.

Knowledge of Medical terminology.

Minimum two years recent experience with third party payers and all aspects of billing.

Demonstrates well developed written and verbal communication skills.
