Job Summary and Mission


This position contributes to Starbucks success by being accountable to drive shipments, share and equity by driving retailer category growth and contributing to their category strategies while setting up Starbucks brands to win disproportionately through superior adoption of Shopper Inspired Principles and analytical excellence of MAPS (Merchandising, Assortment, Pricing, Shelving) Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.


Summary of Key Responsibilities


Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:


Business Requirements-Leadership

  • Lead in partnership with the Senior Account Executive in the development and delivery of the category joint business plan with the retailer leveraging Shopper and Retailer insights.
  • Develop strategic customer penetration and deliver activities impacting the retailer team, including headquarters influence, project management, and joint VITO score carding.
  • Strong customer penetration and influence vs. competition in the development of CPG customers category strategies that disproportionately deliver shipment and share
  • Is the primary point of contact back for their team back to the Category Development Director
  • Acts as the 'go to person' for the category at the CPG customer, and serves the retailer as a lead category advisor
  • Leverages analytical tools (including customer-specific tools and data) to develop new department and category insights and influence retailer's future strategic direction of the category.
  • Turn raw data into actionable conclusions which deliver greater share of promotion, distribution and shelving; sell long-term sustainable strategies to the customer.
  • Develop ongoing and detailed knowledge base of key customer strategies and plans through strong customer penetration.
  • Influence retailer decisions on Starbucks categories and an outcome of perceived objectivity.
  • Work with Shopper Inspired Principles project leaders to coordinate team resources to deliver enhanced department/category performance through optimal adjacencies, layout, way finding, and orchestrated shelf
    segmentation consistent with our Shopper Inspired Principles.
  • Is a Starbucks 'Coffee Master'; intimately understands the coffee category, from farm to cup, as a consumer and a shopper, and is viewed by the customer as the coffee expert.


Partner Development & Team Building


Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:

  • Challenges and inspires team members to achieve business results.
  • Collaborates with the team leader and Account Executives in the teams planning process around identify strategic opportunities, analyzing and aligning with the teams business plans
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • Ensures partners adhere to legal and lead, train, develop and motivate organization to optimize individual and team performance.
  • operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results

Job Requirements

Summary of Experience


  • Sales and/or Category Development roles for traditional CPG company (+5 years)
  • Experience working with Shopper insights data and or shopper marketing experience with traditional CPG company


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to align strategy, leverage multi-functional resources, and Market-Shopper analytics
  • Strong Financial Acumen, ability to negotiate and reach win/win agreements
  • Understands the CPG industry, leads joint business planning, and can commercializes value
  • Ability to sell persuasively and to collaborate with other
  • Ability to build diverse collaborative relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Can work in a fast paced, changing, matrix environment
  • Able to handle and manage confidential information when working internal and externally
