Job Description

This position is responsible for supporting strategy formulation and execution and other projects and strategic initiatives related to achieving profitable growth.  Plans, organizes, and provides market intelligence, communications processes and leadership to achieve operational, tactical, and business development objectives.  Conducts strategic analysis, prepares business cases, and perform business intelligence research. 
The Strategy Manager, Elsevier Clinical Solutions will report directly to the Director, Strategy and Business Development, Elsevier Clinical Solutions and will have very broad exposure to Elsevier Clinical Solutions. 
Key responsibilities for this position include:
Business development
  • Support strategic M&A efforts, including  estimates of target size and market size / growth, researching relevant market trends / data / facts , financial forecasting, analysis and modeling.
  • Designing and maintaining a business development dashboard for the CS management team
Strategic planning
  • Supporting strategic projects (including strategic opportunity assessment and implementation efforts) across the entire Clinical Solutions business by working with Clinical Solutions product, functional and commercial teams
  • Supporting  the CS strategic planning process [fundamentals, investment and acquisition review, establishment of 5 year business strategy and operational plan] working closely with key stakeholders from the CS business units
  • Developing a broad understanding of the CS businesses and offerings
  • Managing multiple research / analysis requests and projects at the same time
Financial analysis and business modeling
  • Rapidly assembling and processing large amounts of information and being able to break a question/problem into its constituent elements
  • Performing detailed analysis and then determining and communicating the underlying drivers and implications that will drive the business

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a healthcare consulting or investment banking background and 3-5 years business experience. The ideal candidate should possess the following:
Strategic & results orientation:
  • 2-4 years post-undergrad experience with a major strategy consulting firm or equity research in investment banking (or comparable background)
  • Strategically, analytically and intellectually assertive.
  • Demonstrated ability to think structurally about a business, able to employ sophisticated tools and analysis to identify potential areas of significant business value for a company.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong sense of personal ownership and ability to 'get things done'
  • Ability to work independently (coaching and development support will be provided)
  • Sense of pace and urgency into the business and seek to sustain momentum.
  • Strong leadership skills and team orientation
  • Superior research skills and resourcefulness to draw logical conclusions with often limited / imperfect information
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Track record of building good working relationships with client team members
  • Healthcare experience a plus
  • Information services or e-business experience a plus
  • Some travel required
