In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the regional activities of the Human Resource department and its associated programs and functions in support of corporate goals and objectives for the McConway & Torley and Standard Forge facilities.  This will be accomplished by conducting short and long-term planning efforts, organizing and directing the activities which service and support the McConway & Torley and Standard Forge leadership teams to embed a strategic approach to human resource development and management that results in more effective front line delivery. This position is accountable for working directly with business unit leaders to proactively address the implications of the current and future needs of the business with an objective of increasing overall organizational capability and effectiveness and individual performance.  Primary deliverables include providing counsel and advice to leaders, plant management, operating departments and guidance to individual employees; developing and delivering all related programs applicable to their business unit and driving initiatives required to meet business unit objectives. The position serves as a company / plant representative in matters pertaining to labor relations and employee relations.  The position also serves as a change agent and liaison between management, employee groups, community groups, corporate HR functions and other plant locations.

 Responsibilities:

  • Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, human resources policy interpretation, employee relations, compensation/benefits and recruitment.
  • Build and foster ongoing relationships to effectively partner with the business and key stakeholders to coach and influence business decisions.
  • Participate as an integral member of each facilities management team, providing advice, coaching and leadership on all matters involving human resource matters.  
  • Anticipate HR issues as a result of long-range business strategies and partnering with senior managers to create proactive solutions to keep up with evolving changes.
  • Initiate and manage the consistent implementation of various initiatives in support of our HR strategic plan involving recruitment and staffing, driving individual and team performance management, organization design, employee and labor relations, leadership development, and corporate responsibility (core values, code of conduct, employment laws).
  • Perform risk assessments and preventative strategies to reduce the organizations exposure to legal and other employment risks.
  • Maintain high visibility at all locations in order to promote HR programs and assist management with effective line communication.
  • Manage workforce reductions, restructures, changes and communication channels. 
  • Directs the establishment and maintenance of appropriate personnel and employee relations systems, records and reports.
  • Coordinates with corporate functions to insure programs are consistent and application is in accordance with established policies and comply with provincial law and regulations.
  • Maintains liaison with, and coordinates employee relations activities with other departments to acquire current information, discuss business problems and work out solutions.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 10 years Human Resource experience 
  • SPHR designation is preferred
  • Requires knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts. (Lean Sigma, Six Sigma)
  • 4-5  years of management experience overseeing exempt employees and supervisors
  • Travel 25%
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, technical procedures, accounting reports and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
    situations where only limited standardization exists 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draws valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of labor, EEOC, FMLA and other related laws
