Job Description

Market and Event Management

  • Achieve budgeted Fair event count by scheduling events in schools within assigned territory by:
  • Rebooking fair events for future season/year upon their completion through diligent post-event follow up.
  • Building additional event count with second Fair bookings within the same school year.
  • Scheduling new school event bookings, increasing market penetration % over prior year.
  • Scheduling solid Fair events to avoid future Fair event fall out/cancellations.
  • Achieve budgeted revenue goals within assigned territory by:
  • Maintaining timely and thorough Pre-Fair calls to each customer, promoting all programs and event   participation strategies, and influencing them to implement these proven solutions around their Fair events. 
  • Developing expertise on our product, merchandising, and services in order to offer each customer the best guidance on conducting more successful events.
  • Maintain current, accurate sales/service records of individual activity within assigned territory.
  • Prioritize tasks, recognize issues or opportunities, take independent and immediate action when made aware of a customer situation, and readjust priorities when appropriate in order to meet assigned goals and objectives.

Customer Focus

  • Develop and expand customer relationships with each Chairperson and other school personnel by understanding individual requirement/expectations and meeting needs through company's product, process, and services.
  • Build rapport and cooperative relationships with customers, and take immediate action to meet customer needs and concerns.  Seek feedback, and effectively recover from customer service mistakes.
  • Provide value and ensure exceptional customer experiences by delivering on commitments made.
  • Listen patiently and carefully to customers by demonstrating genuine interest in their ability to be successful.


  • Partner with the Operations Department, providing updated and current information in the computer system by the three-week timeframe to avoid changes to the Fair build and/or truck routing.
  • Positively impact the performance of personal territory and internal team members, making procedural suggestions for achieving team goals.
  • Exercise creativity and innovation by contributing to the creation, enhancement, or improvement of Scholastic's products, services, and internal operations.
  • Build productive working relationships with both internal and external customers through effective, organized, and timely communications.

Functional Expertise/Personal Effectiveness

  • Support our mission to encourage reading and promote lifelong learning, and demonstrate our values of caring and respect for all people.
  • Work with business partners to implement new technologies, staying abreast of current sales process/expectations as developed.
  • Work effectively in situations involving shifting priorities and rapid change, demonstrating ability to cope well with challenging circumstances.
  • Attend Scholastic Book Fairs exhibits, events, school Fairs, etc., as assigned and required by management.
  • Maintain business confidentiality relative to pricing, promotion, customer lists, and methods of distribution.
  • Perform all other sales duties as assigned by manager.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Business Administration, Management, Marketing, or related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of proven successful sales experience in telephone sales, personal selling, and customer service.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software; experience with Sales Automation, Customer Relationship Management, or Web-based software programs.
  • Proven ability to build and grow revenue while adding value for customers.
  • Familiarization with children's literature, Book Fairs, and school activities is a plus.
  • Ability to execute a vision, manages multiple priorities, and achieves reults.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer orientation over the telephone.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with peers, superior (cross functional and throughout the organization) and customers.
