Senior Manager of Accounting Policy and Reporting

Tribune Company is seeking a Senior Manager of Accounting Policy and Reporting for the Corporate Office.  In this role, the individual will be responsible for maintaining company-wide accounting policies as well as researching and resolving complex technical accounting issues and implementing new accounting standards in order to ensure accurate and consistent application of U.S. GAAP throughout Tribune Company.  This individual will also be assisting the Director of Financial Reporting in managing the consolidated financial reporting process.

Job Requirements

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and assist with the implementation of company-wide accounting policies and draft technical accounting memoranda;
  • Work with business unit personnel to ensure consistent application of accounting policies across the company;
  • Review significant unusual or non-routine transactions to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP;
  • Advise management as to accounting implications of significant transactions as they progress to completion, including presenting preliminary conclusions and documenting and communicating their effect on the consolidated financial statements;
  • Review new accounting pronouncements and develop steps for implementation, as applicable;
  • Oversee accounting over stock-based compensation;
  • Assist with purchase accounting and accounting for other complex transactions;
  • Assist the Director of Financial Reporting to ensure that reported financial information is prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP and in compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission reporting requirements; and
  • Perform financial analysis and other duties/projects as directed.

Requirements:

  • Ideal candidates must have an undergraduate degree in accounting with 7+ years of experience in an accounting role.
  • CPA is required.
  • Big 4 audit firm experience serving public clients is preferred. Proven hands-on experience accounting for complex accounting issues and corporate transactions including the identification of the applicable accounting guidance and the relevant facts and circumstances and the ability to develop preliminary conclusions.
  • Qualified candidate must be results-oriented, able to work in a team environment and possess excellent interpersonal skills in order to communicate across corporate departments and other levels of management.
  • Must possess strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and consistently meet tight deadlines, work efficiently with a sense of urgency, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience with SEC reporting, XBRL and IFRS a plus.
  • Media industry familiarity or PeopleSoft financial system knowledge is beneficial, but not required.
