Job Description

The Business Development Manager for the Electronic Systems Group (ESG) of Ducommun, Inc. is responsible for the development of the industrial and natural resource markets. This candidate will lever Ducommun’s range of engineering, manufacturing, and after market capabilities to provide innovative solutions to our Customers. They will coordinate and drive ESG’s sales efforts to achieve our goal of profitable growth and customer intimacy by presenting Ducommun as an innovative solutions provider. Their charter will include continuous improvement of Ducommun's image both internally and externally while identifying, validating and winning new product and service opportunities which augment existing core competencies. They will relentlessly pursue new business to meet and exceed ESG’s sales and profitability objectives.

We provide turnkey manufacturing services for highly complex, high-performance interconnect solutions and electronic, electromechanical and engineered products used in critical functions where durability and peak performance are vital. Our customers are leaders in diverse and demanding industries such as defense, aerospace, industrial, natural resources and medical.


Position reports to: Director of Business Development for ESG (focusing on the general industrial market)

  • Provide leadership for ESG sales through the formulation and execution of strategies and capture plans that capitalize on ESG’s strengths in core competencies, products and services to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Build customer relationships to grow sales for all ESG sites.
  • Coordinate ESG company wide support activities and provide leadership to establish individual sales strategies obtaining appropriate approvals for pricing, and delivery.
  • Negotiate contracts and develop proposals as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of market trends, competitive actions, product needs, and customer base.
  • Assist with competitive / market assessments.
  • Work cross-functionally with ESG Operations, Finance, Procurement, Estimating, and Business Management to develop project specific sales strategies.
  • Make specific recommendations for continued growth, identify specific growth opportunities and establish priorities.
  • Communicate regularly with ESG customers representing all EMS product lines.
  • Prepare and present sales & marketing proposals and perform technical presentations.
  • Establish sales goals and develop sales plans.

Represent Ducommun at trade shows, conferences, seminars and technical symposiums

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college in business or engineering related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in technical product sales, customer & product support or services.
  • Demonstrated organization skills with the ability to plan itineraries, develop programs, write proposals and meet all monthly reporting requirements while traveling up to 50% of their time meeting face to face with customers at their locations.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet competing or short-notice deadlines consistently.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the market and technical applications for product lines and markets.
  • Strong computer skills including ability to create documents using PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, MS Project, Outlook and Word in producing internal and external documents (letters, proposals and correspondence) required.
  • Demonstrated track record in working with all levels of staff and management.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, technical or marketing or equivalent experience.
  • Preference given to candidates with EMS sales/business development experience with a focus on High Level Assembly (not PCBA only).
  • Consideration will be given to candidates with business development experience in the Industrial, Mechatronics, and Medicals markets.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of demonstrated results in sales and marketing with proven customer relation skills, managing customers as partners. MUST HAVE manufacturing or sales experience in electronics industry covering some or all of the following:
    • Cable assemblies
    • Circuit card assemblies
    • Black box assemblies
    • Electro-mechanical assemblies
    • Machining
